Development of an immunochromatographic assay for the β-adrenergic agonist feed additive zilpaterol. Zilpaterol is a β-adrenergic agonist feed additive approved in the United States to increase weight gain and improve feed efficiency of cattle. A zilpaterol immunochromatographic assay was developed as an economical and user-friendly rapid detection method for zilpaterol and validated using urine and tissue samples derived from animal studies. Validation of a method for sedatives and β-blockers determination in swine, bovine and equine kidney using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. A method for the determination of five sedatives and 14 β-blocker residues in swine, bovine and equine kidney was validated. Samples were extracted with acetonitrile and purified using dispersive solid phase extraction (d-SPE) with Celite 545 with subsequent analysis by LC-MS/MS. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids in food and feed on the Belgian market. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are widely distributed plant toxins with species dependent hepatotoxic, carcinogenic, genotoxic and pneumotoxic risks. In a recent European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) opinion, only two data sets from one European country were received for honey, while one feed data set was included. Development and validation of a method for Cd, Pb and As analysis in bovine, equine and poultry liver by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. A method for the determination of As, Cd and Pb in bovine, equine and poultry liver by ICP-MS was developed and validated. Samples were digested in a microwave oven using a 10% HNO(3) solution. A set of experiments was made according to a central composite design (CCD) for optimisation of the plasma argon flow, nebuliser argon flow and radiofrequency power applied to the plasma.
