Effect of training on diverse hematologic parameters in Andalusian horses.
Revista espanola de fisiologia    December 1, 1995   Volume 51, Issue 4 207-212
Escribano BM, Castejon FM, Santisteban R, Aguera EI, Rubio MD.A study has been made of the variations experienced by the hemogram and blood volume indices in 16 Andalusian horses after carrying out an exercise test of increasing intensity consisting of 3 sequences of 1000 m each, before and after being subjected to a daily exercise programme for two months. Samples were taken by external jugular vein puncture: while at rest, within the first minute of finalizing each exercise stage and at 10 and 15 minutes of recovery. Both the red blood cells and the hematocrit value showed a significant decrease in their mean values after two months training; conversel...
Blood parameter and heart rate response to training in Andalusian horses.
Revista espanola de fisiologia    June 1, 1995   Volume 51, Issue 2 55-64
Agüera EI, Rubio MD, Vivo R, Santisteban R, Muñoz A, Castejón F.A study was performed on Andalusian horses in order to assess the response of heart rate and various blood parameters to training. Two tests were performed, at two and four months of training respectively. Exercise schedules were of increasing intensity, over a distance of 1000 meters. Speed was progressively increased, from 4 m/s to 8.5 m/s, over four exercise stages. In both tests, a recovery period of 5 min followed each stage. Sample collection (by puncture of the external jugular vein) was performed with the animals at rest, within the first minute after each exercise stage, and at 10, 15...
Alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors in the horse ureter.
Revista espanola de fisiologia    December 1, 1987   Volume 43, Issue 4 421-425
Labadia A, Rivera L, Costa G, García-Sacristán A.The presence of both alpha and beta adrenergic receptors in the caudal third ureter of the horse were studied in vitro under isometric conditions using adrenergic agonist and antagonist drugs. Isoprenaline and the beta 2- stimulating agent, salbutamol, elicited relaxation of the ureter smooth muscle strips. The responses were not affected by the beta 1- blocking agent, practolol, but were totally abolished by propranolol and the beta 2- blocking agent, butoxamine. The stimulation of alpha-adrenergic receptors with noradrenaline and phenylephrine evoked a contractile effect which was totally in...
[Gangliosides of neural and extraneural tissues of various species of mammals].
Revista espanola de fisiologia    January 1, 1982   Volume 38 Suppl 37-43
Reglero A, Hueso P, Rodrigo M, García-Alonso J, Llanillo M, Cabezas JA.The ganglioside patterns of the forebrain, cerebellum and brain stem from horse, donkey, mule and goat have been determined by thin-layer chromatography. GM1, GD1a, GD1b and GT1b are the four major brain gangliosides. N-acetylneuraminic acid as the predominant sialic acid (congruent to 97%) and traces of N-glycolyneuraminic acid were found. The four above mentioned major gangliosides were also found in the forebrain, cerebellum and brain stem of adult rats. This pattern is not modified in rats under stress situation (at 4 degrees C for 3 months). In other extraneural organs from rats such as l...
[Comparative study of six methods for lymphocyte isolation from several mammalian sources and determination of their carbohydrate composition (author’s transl)].
Revista espanola de fisiologia    September 1, 1978   Volume 34, Issue 3 339-344
Hueso P, Rocha M.The present paper deals with a comparative study on six methods for isolation of peripheral blood lymphocytes from various mammalian sources: Bos taurus L. (adult cow), Equus caballus L. (adult horse), Equus asinus L. (adult and young donkeys) and Sus scropha L. (adult pig). The following systems were used: a) Filtration through sand columns (a modification of Blaszczyszyn's method); b) Sodium metrizoate and "Ficoll 400" c) "Lymphoprep"; d) "Urovison" and dextran T150 (a modification of GILI et al.'s method); e) "Urografin" and dextran T150; f) "Ficoll-Paque". The final preparation of lymphocy...
