[Glomerulonephritis after contact with a horse]. Zoonoses are important to consider when humans become ill after being in contact with animals. In such cases thorough patient history is crucial, especially when infections have an unclear cause. We present a patient with infection-associated glomerulonephritis, where a horse was the probable source of infection. A young woman was admitted to the district general hospital in Vestfold, Norway, with infection and acute kidney failure. [Smallpox and smallpox virus–200 years since the first vaccination in Norway]. In December 1801, the first vaccination against smallpox in Norway took place. Vaccine material came from Denmark, England, Ireland, and other countries; it was also obtained from a few local cowpox cases. What mattered was the effect, not the origin. [Animal bites at the casualty department of the Oslo City Council]. During a 2-year period all Casualty Department data charts with the diagnosis "animal bite" were reviewed as part of internal quality control. Of 1,051 recorded episodes, 503 (48%) were women and 147 (14%) children under 16 years of age. 951 (90%) wounds were treated without closure. Half of the patients were not given antibiotics on the first visit, whereas one third were given penicillin. Tetanus status had been evaluated on 1,015 (97%) charts. [Therapeutic riding for persons with somatic disabilities]. Therapeutic riding for somatic disabled has been established as one of the treatment modalities at Beitostølen Health Sports Centre ever since it opened in 1970. The accumulated experience indicates positive effects of the treatment, on empirical grounds, but there is a need of further evaluation and controlled studies. The authors briefly review the principle of the treatment and present the results of a study on the level of pain in patients with Bechterew's disease before and after treatment.
