Complete Genome Sequence of Mycoplasma felis Strain Myco-2, Isolated from an Equine Tracheal Wash Sample in Japan.
Abstract: Mycoplasma felis causes conjunctivitis in cats and respiratory diseases in horses. We report here the complete genome assembly of equine Mycoplasma felis strain Myco-2, which was isolated from an ill horse in Japan.

This research pertains to the complete genetic sequencing of the Mycoplasma felis strain “Myco-2”, which has been associated with respiratory diseases in horses and originated from an ailing horse in Japan.
Background of the Study
- The research mainly deals with the Mycoplasma felis bacterium, which is known for causing conjunctivitis in cats and certain types of respiratory illnesses in horses.
- The specific strain of the bacterium being studied is named “Myco-2”. This strain was initially isolated from a horse suffering from such a respiratory disease in Japan.
Objective of the Study
- The primary objective of this research is to conduct a comprehensive genetic analysis or “genome assembly” of the Myco-2 strain.
- A complete and detailed understanding of the genetic makeup of the Myco-2 strain would help in potentially predicting its behavior and developing remedies or preventive measures against diseases it causes.
Implication of the Findings
- The implications of such findings can be far-reaching. By understanding the genomic structure of the Myco-2 strain, researchers can get a deeper insight into the functions and behavior of this strain, which is an important step towards diagnosing and treating the diseases it leads to.
- Furthermore, these findings may also contribute to expanding the scientific knowledge base around the Mycoplasma felis bacterium. This could lead to the development of broader preventative or curative strategies that target the diseases caused by the whole family of Mycoplasma felis bacteria rather than just one strain.
