[Dynamics of the functional, biochemical and hormonal indices of racehorses].
Abstract: Parallel physiologic, biochemical, and hormonal investigations of racehorses were carried out within the time period of a training cycle. The changes found in the physiologic and biochemical indices were said to be in a general relationship with the amount of physical training of the animals, at the same time reflecting some seasonal variations. The changes in the level of T-4 and cortisol were found to be in direct relationship with the continuation of training.

This research paper studies the change in physiological, biochemical, and hormonal aspects of racehorses during a training cycle, discovering a general relationship between these changes and the physical training of the horses, along with some seasonal variations.
Research Methodology
- The researchers conducted concurrent physiological, biochemical, and hormonal evaluations on racehorses throughout a complete training cycle.
- This approach provided a comprehensive understanding of the horse’s physical condition and ongoing adjustments in response to training.
- Different amounts and intensities of physical activities were likely integrated into the training cycle.
Physiological and Biochemical Changes
- The researchers detected a common correlation between modifications in the physiological and biochemical indices of the racehorses and their volume of physical training.
- This implies that the horse’s physiological and biochemical responses were influenced by the intensity and frequency of their physical exertions.
- For instance, an increase in physical training might have led to enhanced cardiovascular performance or muscle endurance, observable through changes in respective physiological and biochemical parameters.
- These fluctuations also revealed some correlation with seasonal changes, suggesting that external environmental factors like temperature, humidity, or seasonal food variations may also impact the horse’s physiological and biochemical responses.
Hormonal Changes
- The study found a direct association between changes in the level of T-4 and cortisol hormones and the continuation of training.
- T-4 (Thyroxine) is a hormone that plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism and energy production. Cortisol, often referred to as the “stress hormone,” helps manage how the body uses carbohydrates, fats, and proteins and also plays a significant role in stress response.
- These findings suggest that as training progresses and intensifies, these hormones respond accordingly. Higher cortisol levels could indicate increased stress on the horse’s body due to rigorous training, and changes in T-4 levels may reflect alterations in energy consumption and metabolism due to increased physical expenditure.
