[Ethological foundations in relation to animal husbandry technics].

Abstract: Ethological reflections concerning animal management and handling because of efficiency have to consider different factors of influence as for example animal/man-relationship, economy of labor and working conditions for men. Definitions of ethological methods were given, and the complexity between animal behavior and animal management were described. The quantification of men's ability to handle animals is treated. The evaluation of a cattle-keeping facility by the ethological concept of 'meeting of requirements and avoiding of damage' is reviewed.

This research article discusses the influence of ethological factors on animal husbandry techniques, focusing on the relationship between animals and humans, labor efficiency, working conditions for humans, and the complexity of animal behavior and management.

Understanding the Relationship between Human and Animal

  • The research delves into understanding how animal behavior impacts their interaction with humans in an animal husbandry setting.
  • The human-animal relationship is noted as a significant factor impacting efficient animal management and handling. It implies the necessity for those in animal husbandry to cultivate a positive and understanding relationship with the animals they manage.

Efficiency of Labor and Working Conditions

  • The article reflects on the interplay between labor efficiency and working conditions, noting that ensuring optimal working conditions can enhance labor efficiency in animal husbandry.
  • This can involve providing suitable environments for the animals which are not overly stressful or harmful for the workers.

Complexity of Animal Behavior and Management

  • Part of the discourse explores the multifaceted connection between animal behavior and management such that understanding animal behavior can contribute to more effective management.
  • Assessing animal behavior ethologically (considering animals in their natural environment and innate behaviors) contributes to creating better management strategies and techniques.

Quantifying Human’s Ability to Handle Animals

  • The study gives emphasis to the importance of assessing, quantitatively, the ability of humans to effectively handle animals within these settings.
  • This calls attention to the importance of relevant expertise, education, or training in animal husbandry for effective animal management.

Evaluation of Animal Husbandry Facilities

  • The paper brings up the concept of ‘meeting of requirements and avoiding of damage’, using it to appraise a cattle-keeping facility.
  • The quality of an animal husbandry facility is considered based on how well it meets the needs of both the animals and human handlers and minimizes harm to both entities.
