[Histologic studies on the corpora amylacea in the mammary glands of goats, horses, and ewes].
Abstract: Corpora amylacea are present in all the mammary glands of the investigated animals (ewe, goat, and mares). Generally, they are comparable to the cow regarding to its distribution, frequency, size, morphological structure, and staining properties. Corpora amylacea occur most frequently in the ewe, and in non-lactating mammary glands. In lactating mammary glands they are mostly situated in the alveoles. During gestation they are located outside of the alveoles and in the interalveolar connective tissue. Only in very few cases corpora amylacea are found inside and outside of the alveoles in the same mammary gland. Frequently, its centre consists of a round nucleus.

This research reveals the presence of Corpora amylacea, a type of cellular structure, in the mammary glands of ewes, goats, and mares and discusses their properties and distribution in these animals, often comparing them to those found in cows.
Overview of the Research
- The primary focus of this research was to investigate the presence, distribution, and characteristics of corpora amylacea in the mammary glands of ewes, goats, and mares. The findings show that these structures are indeed present in all the examined animals.
- The comparative study with cows, a commonly studied mammal, revealed similarities in the distribution, frequency, size, morphological structure, and staining properties of these structures between the species examined.
Frequency and Location of Corpora Amylacea
- The research uncovered that corpora amylacea are most common in ewes and are usually found in non-lactating mammary glands.
- When the glands are lactating, the corpora amylacea are primarily situated in the alveoles, the small cavities where milk is produced and secreted.
- However, during pregnancy, these structures seem to be found outside of the alveoles and in the connective tissue between the alveoles.
- Only in exceptional cases were corpora amylacea found in both inside and outside of the alveoles in the same mammary gland.
Characteristics of Corpora Amylacea
- Corpora amylacea, as described in this research, frequently have a centered, round nucleus.
- The research does not elaborate on the functional implications of this characteristic, but this could be an area of further investigation.
This research paves the way for a deeper understanding of the mammalian mammary glands, particularly in relation to the function and implications of corpora amylacea in these glands. This could be vital for health-related studies associated with these animals in the future.
