Modified apparatus for collection of free-flow urine from mares.
Abstract: An apparatus for collection of free-flow urine from female horses is described. This apparatus is a modification of a similar device described previously. It allows the collection of voided urine from adult female horses without confining them to metabolic stables or resorting to invasive procedures like bladder catheterisation. It is relatively easy to use after a short adaptation period.

The paper discusses a new method for collecting urine from female horses that’s less intrusive and more practical than previous methods.
Introduction to the Modified Apparatus
- The research is centered around an instrument that has been tailored to aid in the gathering of free-flow urine from mares, or female horses.
- This apparatus presents a modification from a similar tool that was previously detailed in another study.
Purpose of the Modified Apparatus
- The device was adjusted to allow the collection of expelled urine from mature mares without causing them unnecessary stress or discomfort.
- The need for enclosing these animals in metabolic stalls is eliminated, which typically offered restricted movement and could cause additional stress.
- Also, more invasive procedures, such as bladder catheterization, are avoided. This method is typically associated with some risks, such as infection or damage to the urinary tract.
Usability and Efficiency of the Modified Apparatus
- The process of using this apparatus is fairly straightforward and easy-to-grasp after a brief adjustment period.
- While not explicit in this overview, this suggests that the operational learning curve for this tool is not overly complex, and once understood, application can be handled with ease and promptness.
