Menadione Sodium Bisulfate Complex (Source of Vitamin K)
Menadione sodium bisulfate complex (MSBC) is a synthetic source of vitamin K, specifically vitamin K3. It is a stable and water-soluble compound commonly used in animal feed to ensure adequate vitamin K intake.
In equine nutrition, vitamin K is essential for blood clotting, bone metabolism, and vascular health. However, most horses do not require vitamin K supplementation, as it is naturally produced by microbes in the hindgut and found in fresh forages. Supplementation may be beneficial in certain cases, such as high-performance horses, those on antibiotic treatments, or horses with limited forage access.
