Organic Iodine

Organic iodine refers to iodine chemically bound to organic compounds, such as ethylenediamine dihydroiodide (EDDI), calcium iodate, or kelp-based iodine sources. It is utilized as a supplemental source of iodine in animal feeds to support proper thyroid gland function and overall metabolic processes. Iodine plays an essential role in the synthesis of thyroid hormones, which regulate growth, metabolism, reproduction, and thermoregulation.

In equine nutrition, organic iodine is often preferred due to its higher bioavailability and lower risk of toxicity compared to inorganic forms, allowing for more precise nutritional management.
