Phosphate - Feed Ingredient

Phosphate refers to a form of phosphorus that is bound to oxygen, commonly included in equine diets as a source of the essential mineral phosphorus. It plays a crucial role in bone and tooth formation, energy metabolism (as part of ATP), and acid-base balance. Phosphate compounds used in feed include monocalcium phosphate, dicalcium phosphate, and defluorinated phosphate.

In horse feeds, phosphate is used to ensure adequate phosphorus intake, particularly when forages are low in phosphorus or when calcium-to-phosphorus ratios need to be corrected. Balancing calcium and phosphorus is critical, especially for growing horses, to support proper skeletal development. Excessive phosphorus intake, particularly in relation to calcium, can impair calcium absorption and contribute to developmental orthopedic disorders in young horses

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Phosphate as an ingredient.
