Fatty acid profiles of the plasma and follicular fluid mares fed a combination of linseed and salmon oil.
Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias    August 9, 2021   Volume 93, Issue suppl 3 e20190443 doi: 10.1590/0001-3765202120190443
Viafara JAS, Portilho RV, Maculan R, Souza Júnior JF, Silva CM, Rodrigues PG, El Azzi MS, Souza JC.This study evaluated the presence of polyunsaturated fatty acids in circulating blood and in the ovarian follicular fluid of mares, after supplementation of the diet with linseed oil. Six Mangalarga Marchador mares, weighing 397.00±31.89 kg, were kept on native pasture, and assigned to the current study. In a switch over design, mares were randomly allocated to receive 150 ml of vegetable oil daily, containing polyunsaturated fatty acids n3 (62.23 g ALA, 20.34 g LA, 2.27 g EPA, 2.32 g DHA), (n=3) or no supplementation (n=3) in two replicates. Blood and follicular fluid samples were taken on t...
Fetal lesions of EHV-1 in equine.
Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias    September 18, 2020   Volume 92, Issue suppl 2 e20180837 doi: 10.1590/0001-3765202020180837
Ali AA, Refat NA, Algabri NA, Sobh MS.EHV-1 infection is responsible for huge economic losses in equines due to abortion and neonatal mortality. In this study, we describe 4 cases of abortion and neonatal deaths from pregnant mares and a she-donkey from different localities in Egypt during the period from May 2015 to October 2017. Attempts were made to isolate and identify EHV-1, in addition to compare the different pathological lesions in various tissues of the necropsied cases. EHV-1 was successfully isolated from two aborted fetuses and one dead neonatal foal from mares, beside one aborted fetus from a she-donkey. The positive ...
Evaluation of ovarian structures using computerized microtomography.
Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias    June 29, 2017   Volume 89, Issue 3 Suppl 2131-2139 doi: 10.1590/0001-3765201720150864
Paulini F, Chaves SB, Rôlo JLJP, Azevedo RB, Lucci CM.Visualization and clear understanding of the ovarian structures are important in determining the stage of oestrus, helping to diagnose several pathologies and supporting advances in reproductive technologies. In this research, computerized microtomography (microCT) was used to explore and characterize the ovarian structure of seven mammalian species. Ovaries of rats, female dog, queens, cows, mares, sows and a female donkey were used. After microCT scanning, the same samples were prepared for histologic evaluation, used here as a validation criterion. It was possible to distinguish regions of ...
Horse spleen segmentation technique as large animal model of preclinical trials.
Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias    October 22, 2013   Volume 85, Issue 4 1411-1417 doi: 10.1590/0001-37652013110812
Foz Filho RP, Martin BW, Lima AR, Miglino MA.The parenchymal distribution of the splenic artery was studied in order to obtain anatomical basis for partial splenectomy. Thirty two spleens were studied, 26 spleens of healthy horses weighing 320 to 450 kg, aged 3 to 12 years and 6 spleens of fetus removed from slaughterhouse. The spleens were submitted to arteriography and scintigraphy in order to have their vascular pattern examined and compared to the external aspect of the organ aiming establish anatomo-surgical segments. All radiographs were photographed with a digital camera and the digital images were submitted to a measuring system ...
