Conformational plasticity of the VEEV macro domain is important for binding of ADP-ribose. Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) is a new world alphavirus which can be involved in several central nervous system disorders such as encephalitis and meningitis. Secondary osteon size and collagen/lamellar organization (“osteon morphotypes”) are not coupled, but potentially adapt independently for local strain mode or magnitude. In bone, matrix slippage that occurs at cement lines of secondary osteons during loading is an important toughening mechanism. Toughness can also be enhanced by modifications in osteon cross-sectional size (diameter) for specific load environments; for example, smaller osteons in more highly strained "compression" regions vs. larger osteons in less strained "tension" regions. Probing the role of water in lamellar bone by dehydration in the environmental scanning electron microscope. Water, collagen and mineral are the three major components of bone. The structural organization of water and its functions within the bone were investigated using the environmental scanning electron microscope and by analyzing dimensional changes that occur when fresh equine osteonal bone is dehydrated and then rehydrated. These changes are attributed mainly to loss of bulk and weakly bound water. DNA in human and stallion spermatozoa forms local hexagonal packing with twist and many defects. In human and other mammal sperm nuclei, DNA is packed in a highly condensed state, the structure of which remains unsolved. Cryoelectron microscopy of vitrified sections provides a first direct view of the local arrangement of the nucleoprotamine filament. DNA aligns in parallel in layers and its orientation rotates along a single-twist direction as in a cholesteric liquid crystal.
