Aseptic tenosynovitis of the digital flexor tendon sheath, fetlock and pastern annular ligament constriction.
Abstract: The anatomy of the digital flexor tendon sheath and related tendons and ligaments is described. Diagnosis and management of acute tenosynovitis and long-term tenosynovitis and associated tendon injuries are discussed, as well as the syndrome of stenosis of the fetlock canal (or fetlock annular ligament constriction) and palmar annular ligament constriction. Desmitis of the palmar annular ligament is also described.

The research presents a detailed study on the anatomy of the digital flexor tendon sheath and associated tendons and ligaments, alongside discussing the diagnosis and management of tenosynovitis and associated tendon injuries. It also provides insights into the syndrome of fetlock canal stenosis and constriction of the palmar annular ligament.
Understanding the Anatomy
- The researchers initially focus on delineating the anatomy of the digital flexor tendon sheath and the related tendons and ligaments. This anatomical understanding is crucial to comprehend the various diseases that can afflict these regions.
Diagnosis and Management of Acute Tenosynovitis and Long-Term Tenosynovitis
- The article then delves into the diagnosis and treatment of acute tenosynovitis – an inflammation within the tendon sheath resulting from an infection or injury. Methods of early detection, prompt treatment, and the prevention of severe complications are explored.
- Long-term tenosynovitis and associated tendon injuries are extensively discussed. The focus is on chronic inflammation of the tendon sheath, which also involves degeneration and fibrous thickening. The effects on the patient’s mobility and quality of life are considered, together with potential management and treatment options.
Stenosis of the Fetlock Canal and Palmar Annular Ligament Constriction
- The paper also investigates the syndrome of stenosis of the fetlock canal (also known as fetlock annular ligament constriction), illustrating its causes, symptoms, and treatment. This condition typically results in a narrowed fetlock canal, causing discomfort and limiting the movement of the affected area.
- In addition, palmar annular ligament constriction, another form of tendon sheath disorder, is spotlighted. Factors contributing to this ligament constriction and ways to alleviate the associated hindrance are discussed.
Desmitis of the Palmar Annular Ligament
- Finally, the researchers present a detailed explanation of desmitis of the palmar annular ligament. Desmitis is the inflammation of a ligament, and the study investigates the implications of this condition in the palmar annular ligament, including the diagnosis and suitable treatment modalities.
