Retraction Note to: Analysis of loxoprofen in tablets, patches, and equine urine as tert-butyldimethylsilyl derivative by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
Abstract: The authors have retracted this article [1] because after publication they became aware that the equine urine samples analysed for loxoprofen in this study were in fact equine plasma samples. Therefore the results and conclusions of this article cannot be relied upon. All authors agree to this retraction.

Summary
This research summary has been generated with artificial intelligence and may contain errors and omissions. Refer to the original study to confirm details provided. Submit correction.
The study initially set out to analyze the presence of loxoprofen in tablets, patches, and horse urine using a process called gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. However, the authors have withdrawn the paper due to a significant error: they mistakenly analyzed horse plasma samples, not urine as initially claimed. As a result, they have agreed that their findings and conclusions are unreliable.
About the Research
- The research intended to analyse the substance loxoprofen as tert-butyldimethylsilyl derivative found in various forms such as tablets, patches and specifically equine urine, using a chemical analyzing technique called gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
- Loxoprofen is a common non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) often used for pain relief and inflammation treatment. Investigating its presence in equine urine would have been a method to monitor its use or misuse in race horses.
Mistake and Retraction Notice
- However, the authors discovered a significant mistake after publication. The samples they had analysed were equine plasma samples, not urine as they had initially reported.
- Plasma and urine samples differ significantly in their composition, making the approach and conclusions of this paper invalid. Therefore, the researchers have issued a retraction notice, indicating that the results and conclusions of this article are unreliable due to the incorrect type of sample being analysed.
Agreement and Consequences
- All authors have accepted the mistake and agreed to this retraction, meaning that this study should not be referenced or relied upon in future research.
- This kind of self-correction is a crucial part of ensuring that scientific research remains accurate and trustworthy. However, it also underscores the importance of meticulousness in sample collection and laboratory procedures.
