Alpha-casozepine

Alpha-casozepine is a bioactive peptide derived from alpha-S1 casein, a protein naturally present in cow’s milk. It is produced through enzymatic digestion of casein and has been investigated for calming and anxiolytic-like effects without acting as a sedative.

In equine nutrition, alpha-casozepine is used in some calming supplements for horses exposed to travel, competition, handling, or other stressful situations. A small controlled study in horses reported modest improvements in compliance and apparent comfort during mildly aversive routine procedures, although the overall equine evidence base remains limited. Alpha-casozepine is supplied for its functional peptide activity rather than as a meaningful protein or amino acid source.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Alpha-casozepine as an ingredient.
