Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is the fat extracted from the flesh of the avocado fruit (Persea americana). It has a high concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids, particularly the omega-9 fatty acid oleic acid. Unlike whole avocado, refined avocado oil is essentially pure fat, containing little to no fiber or protein, making it a highly concentrated source of dietary energy.

In equine nutrition, avocado oil can be used to increase the energy density of the diet and support skin and coat condition without adding significant starch or sugar. Its fatty acid profile is dominated by oleic acid, with smaller amounts of omega-6 linoleic acid and relatively little omega-3 fatty acid. For this reason, avocado oil is primarily considered an energy-dense fat source rather than a significant source of omega-3s in equine diets.
