Codonopsis pilosula root (Dangshen)
Codonopsis pilosula root, commonly known as dangshen or “poor man’s ginseng,” is a herb used in traditional Chinese medicine. It contains bioactive compounds including polysaccharides, saponins, and phenolic acids, and is traditionally valued for adaptogenic and tonic properties.
In equine formulations, Codonopsis pilosula root is occasionally included in herbal supplements intended to support energy, immune function, and digestive health. Its effects have not been well studied in horses, and its use is generally limited to specialty herbal products.
