Descurainia sophia (Flixweed)

Descurainia sophia, commonly known as flixweed, is an annual plant in the mustard family (Brassicaceae). Its seeds have been used in traditional herbal systems and contain mucilage, fatty acids, glucosinolates, and other plant compounds. The species is widely distributed and can also occur as an agricultural weed.

In equine supplements, Descurainia sophia may be used as a specialty botanical ingredient rather than as a conventional nutrient source. Traditional applications are associated with respiratory and fluid-balance support, but controlled research in horses is limited. Because members of the mustard family can contain biologically active glucosinolates, formulation should consider the plant part, processing method, inclusion level, and the contribution of other Brassicaceae ingredients in the total diet.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Descurainia sophia (Flixweed) as an ingredient.
