Torreya grandis (Chinese Torreya)

Torreya grandis, commonly known as Chinese torreya, is an evergreen conifer native to China. It produces large seeds that have been used as food and in traditional herbal preparations. The seeds contain oils, proteins, and a range of naturally occurring phytochemicals, while the plant belongs to the yew family (Taxaceae).

In equine supplements, Torreya grandis may appear as a traditional botanical ingredient, particularly in formulations based on historical uses of the seed. It is not commonly used as a primary nutritional feed ingredient, and controlled studies in horses are lacking. Because related members of the Taxaceae family can contain potent bioactive or toxic compounds, the species and plant part must be accurately identified and equine use should be based on appropriately processed material and conservative formulation practices.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Torreya grandis (Chinese Torreya) as an ingredient.
