Cells treated with idoxuridine-dimethyl sulfoxide (idu-dmso) had a two- to four-fold increase in the number of particles as compared with nontreated cells or cells treated with dmso alone. A total of 8 colts was used: 2 colts were exposed intravenously and 1 colt used as a contact control was placed with them; 2 colts were exposed intragastrically; 1 colt was administered killed M. paratuberculosis intravenously; and the remaining 2 colts were used as normal controls and were housed separately.
