The canal system in the diaphysial compacta of the femur in some mammals. The Haversian canal system in the diaphysial compacta of the femur in 4 mammalian species (dog, pig, bovine, horse) was studied on the decalcified bone using a method developed by the authors. In the microscopic studies we found that in all species the network aspects vary with the depth of the compacta layer. In all layers, there is a background of longitudinal canals with more or less regular trajectories describing large curves. Presence of a tracheal bronchus in ponies. A relatively unknown existence of a tracheal bronchus in three, approximately 2-3 years old ponies, is reported and the possible genesis of this anomaly is discussed.
Fat cell size in various body region. A statistical analysis in Equus caballus. In 13 horses from both sexes, between 5 months and 18 years of age, in good nutritional state, statistical evaluations of fat cell sizes were performed in 16 body regions. Neuromelanin in the substantia nigra of adult horses. The structure and histochemical properties of neuromelanin in the Substantia nigra of the horse were studied by light and electron microscopy. Morphological, histochemical and cytochemical evidences showed the presence of a melanin component in some pigment granules, even if a large quantity of granules displayed only the properties of lipofuscins. Some biomechanical aspects of the structure of the equine tarsus. The morphology of the bones of the equine tarsus has distinct kinematical and kinetic implications which are primarily expressed in the helical motion of the talocrural joint and in the transmission of forces by the rigid conformation of the subtalar articulations.
[Tooth homology in mammals]. The development of the chewing, lacerative and omnivorous dentition type was confirmed on the base of the author's studies on the dentition of placentalia representatives. Aberrant retropharyngeal lymph nodes of a horse (Equus caballus). The occurrence of aberrant lymph nodes, on both sides of the head of a horse, belonging to the retropharyngeal lymphocenter has been reported.
Presence of the arteria caroticobasilaris in the horse. The consistent presence of the caroticobasilar artery was observed and discussed in view of the anatomical normalities in the horse. The persistence of the above vessel was correlated with the developmental changes in the cranial and cerebral arteries.
Arteria intercarotica caudalis and its homologue in the domestic animals. The arteria intercarotica caudalis was observed to be present in the dog, horse and cat but was reticulated in the case of cattle, sheep, goat, and pig.
