Hemosiderin; isolation from horse spleen and characterization. 1. A method is outlined for isolating hemosiderin from horse spleen by sedimentation from salt solutions of different specific gravities. 2. The iron, nitrogen, phosphorus and ash concentration varied considerably in hemosiderin samples obtained from different spleens. Fractionation of these preparations by sedimentation in organic liquids showed that fractions could be obtained which varied in their iron concentrations from about 25 to 41% iron. 3. Hemosiderin has been found to contain hexoseamine, galactose, mannose and fucose.
Detection by tissue culture of an organism resembling Histoplasma capsulatum in an apparently healthy horse. Intracellular organisms resembling Histoplasma capsulatum have been observed in apparently normal amnio-allantoic membrane and adult horse spleen maintained in tissue culture.
The significance of this finding and comparison with another fungus Cryptococcus jarciminosus is discussed.

Nature of the heterogenetic hapten reacting with hemagglutinins in horse serum sickness. 1. From beef stroma pretreated at room temperature with acetone and alcohol, a fraction was isolated with boiling 100% alcohol which, in a dilution of 1:500,000, combines with the sheep blood agglutinin of human serum produced during serum sickness. Using the terminology of Schiff, this fraction corresponds to the heterogenetic serum sickness antigen; it could be separated to a large extent from the heterogenetic mononucleosis antigen which also occurs in beef stroma.
