A total of 2142 serum samples were examined. Of the numbers tested approximately 28% of sheep, 11.2% of goats, 8% of cattle and 4.9% of camels were positive for group-specific antibodies to BT virus antigen, indicating previous exposure to BT infection. Littlejohn A, Walker EM.The sex, coat colour, age, province and month of occurrence of every case of babesiosis was recorded in a horse population of 5856 in South Africa and Rhodesia. A total of 115 cases were recorded during the period 1973-01-01 to 1973-12-31. Chisquared tests were used to evaluate the significance of frequencies. Significant biases in the distribution of cases of babesiosis were found with regard to season (P < 0,05), sex (P < 0,001) and coat colour (P < 0.01).

Carpio MM, Iversen JO.Leptospira interrogans serotype pomona antibody titres of 1:100 or greater were detected in 12.8% of 408 adult horses from seven of eight sampled herds in Saskatchewan. The geographical distribution of the seropositive horses was widespread throughout the agricultural area of the province. The geographical distribution and the cumulative increase in prevalence with age suggested that serotype pomona is enzootic in the equine population of Saskatchewan.

Hughes JP.Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM) is a highly contagious venereal disease of horses caused by a fastidious, Gram-negative coccobacillus which grows best on chocolate agar under microaerophilic conditions (5-10% CO2). Issel CJ, Adams WV.In 1975, a survey was conducted in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, to determine the prevalence of equine infectious anemia. Using the agar gel immunodiffusion test, 94 of 1,398 horses (6.7%) were found to be infected. Infection rates were especially high in areas where clinical cases of equine infectious anemia had been diagnosed. Clinical signs compatible with the disease were noted in 1 of the 94 seropositive horses. The sample set of 1,398 horses represented 22% of the census population obtained during the 1971 Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis vaccination campaign.
