Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) is a viral disease affecting horses, caused by the Equine Infectious Anemia Virus (EIAV), a member of the Lentivirus genus. Transmission occurs primarily through blood-feeding insects such as horseflies and deerflies, or through contaminated instruments.
