Guaifenesin is a centrally acting muscle relaxant commonly used in veterinary medicine for horses. It is primarily employed to facilitate procedures requiring sedation or anesthesia by providing muscle relaxation without significant sedation or analgesia. Guaifenesin acts on the central nervous system to depress nerve transmission at the internuncial neurons of the spinal cord, brainstem, and subcortical areas of the brain.
