Genetic relationship between the Nordestino horse and national and international horse breeds. Knowledge of genetic diversity and relationships between breeds is very important for conservation programs. Hair samples were collected from 393 individual Nordestino horses and genotyped using 14 microsatellite markers in order to investigate the genetic relationship between this breed and 66 international horse breeds. Frequency of gray coat color in native Chinese horse breeds. Gray horses are born colored, and they then gradually lose their hair pigmentation. Genetic diversity in the Pantaneiro horse breed assessed using microsatellite DNA markers. The genetic variability for a sample of 227 animals from three populations of Pantaneiro horses was estimated using data from 10 microsatellite loci. The effect of simulated censored data on estimates of heritability of longevity in the Thoroughbred racing industry. We examined the impact of censored data on estimates of heritability of longevity. Longevity, defined as the length of productive racing life of an individual, is influenced by many factors. A simulated data set, modelled on the Irish Thoroughbred industry, was used to estimate heritabilities of longevity. Several scenarios representing various levels of censoring of performance data were created. Greater genetic variability in Argentine Creole than in Thoroughbred horses based on serum protein polymorphisms. Genetic polymorphism was analyzed for five blood proteins: albumin - Al, esterase - Es, alpha(1)B-glycoprotein - Xk, transferrin - Tf and hemoglobin - Hb in 200 Thoroughbred (TB) and 124 Argentine Creole (AC) horses.
