FISH mapping of the IGF2 gene in horse and donkey-detection of homoeology with HSA11. Three genomic subclones derived from a phage clone containing the equine IGF2 gene were used to FISH map the gene on horse (ECA) and donkey (EAS) metaphase chromosomes. One of the current concepts with regard to equine superficial digital flexor tendonitis is that cumulative subclinical microscopic damage weakens the structure, predisposing the tendon to partial or complete rupture. Variations of equine urinary volatile compounds during the oestrous cycle. Equine urine was analysed by capillary gas chromatography. The volatile profiles from oestrous and dioestrous samples were compared to establish any qualitative or quantitative difference that may have potential value in olfactory communication. In this epidemiological study 127 horses from five breeding farms in Upper Bavaria were included. The horses were coproscopically examined in intervals of four weeks over a 16-month period. Linkage of the gene for equine combined immunodeficiency disease to microsatellite markers HTG8 and HTG4; synteny and FISH mapping to ECA9. Equine combined immunodeficiency disease (CID) is caused by homozygosity for an autosomal recessive gene. To identify linked markers for the disease, we studied a family segregating for the equine CID gene. Ageing draft and trotter horses by their dentition. The accuracy of ageing horses by their dentition was assessed by comparing the dental features with the known dates of birth of 212 trotter horses and 189 Belgian draft horses. The horses ranged in age from two to 25 years. In both breeds it was observed that the shedding of the incisors and the appearance of the dental stars were the most reliable features for age determination. Prostaglandin F2alpha release associated with an embryo transfer procedure in the mare. The pattern of the main metabolite of prostaglandin (PG) F2alpha was recorded following a nonsurgical embryo transfer technique in 9 mares under field conditions in Estonia. Three patterns were observed. Two of them were characterised by PG release, thereas the third was not. A tendency towards a shortened cycle was seen in 3 mares. Observations were made regarding the manipulation of the uterus as being normal or difficult to perform.
