Van Leeuwen W.Two trotter stud farms were visited on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during 1972 and 1973. A total of 356 mares were bored on these farms during these breeding seasons. There were 194 nursing, 113 barren, and 49 maiden mares. Of the 356 mares, 78 (21.9%) had functional disorders of the ovaries at one time or another. The functional disorders consisted of: 27 anoestrous mares after early embryonic death, 20 with low ovarian activity, 19 with multifollicular ovaries, and 12 mares with persistent corpora lutea. C) The nitration of all tyrosine residues in both hormones gives rise to a complete loss of somatographic activity with no alteration of the immunological activity.

Concomitant treatment with progesterone or prolactin given concurrently with PMSG was found to overcome the antifertility efficacy of PMSG and maintained the endocrine balance favouring pregnancy maintenance. It was postulated that the PMSG-induced ovarian polyfolliculogenesis might be responsible for luteolysis of the corpus luteum gravidarum.

Sharma OP.Plasma testosterone was measured in the peripheral blood of normal stallions by radioimmunoassay. In 24 stallions a single blood sample was taken between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and the mean testosterone concentration was 3.06 ± 1.27 ng/ml. In the other 8 stallions, blood was withdrawn every 4 h. In all 8 stallions there was evidence of a diurnal rhythm. The maximum mean blood plasma concentration of testosterone was observed in the sample collected at 8:00 a.m. and the minimum at 8:00 p.m. These differences in the blood plasma testosterone level are significant (P<0.10).

The synthesis and conjugation of 3beta-hydroxy-5-androsten-19-al-17-one 19(0-carboxymethyl) oxime is described. Antisera were developed against this antigen and characterized. The most specific antiserum was used to measure DHA. Concentrations of DHA were greatest immediately before ovulation.
