Paternity Tests in Horses. WHEN a registered Thoroughbred mare in the United States is bred to two registered Thoroughbred stallions, the resulting foal can be registered only as the offspring of both stallions. This method of double registry has obvious disadvantages when it comes to keeping records of pedigrees. A Simplified Approach to Splenectomy in the Horse. THE NEED FOR splenectomized horses in piroplasmosis research prompted this study. Quinlan et at.1 described in detail problems encountered using the paralumbar approach to splenectomy. Gaining easy access to the splenic ligaments and vessels was difficult; for this reason the type and age of horse which could be used were limited. The purpose of this report is to present technic by which horses of varying size, age, and conformation can be splenectomized with minimum of stress on the patient and on the surgeon.
