Topic:Amino Acid Sequence

Amino acid sequences in horses refer to the specific order of amino acids in a protein, which is crucial for determining the protein's structure and function. These sequences are encoded by the horse's genetic material and are essential for various biological processes, including muscle development, enzyme activity, and immune response. Understanding amino acid sequences in horses can provide insights into genetic diseases, performance traits, and overall health. This topic explores the latest research on equine amino acid sequences, focusing on their role in protein synthesis, genetic variation, and implications for breeding and veterinary medicine. The page compiles peer-reviewed studies and scholarly articles that investigate the significance of amino acid sequences in equine biology.
Characterization of the beta2-microglobulin gene of the horse.
Immunogenetics    December 5, 2002   Volume 54, Issue 10 725-733 doi: 10.1007/s00251-002-0514-0
Tallmadge RL, Lear TL, Johnson AK, Guรฉrin G, Millon LV, Carpenter SL, Antczak DF.A clone containing beta(2)-microglobulin (beta(2)-m), the light chain of the major histocompatibility complex class I cell surface molecule, was isolated from an equine bacterial artificial chromosome library. This clone was used as a template for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and unidirectional sequencing to elucidate the genomic sequence and intron/exon boundaries. We obtained 7,000 bases of sequence, extending from 1,100 nucleotides (nt) upstream of the coding region start through 1,698 nt downstream of the stop codon. The sequence contained regulatory elements in the region upstream of t...
Stabilization of protein by replacement of a fluctuating loop: structural analysis of a chimera of bovine alpha-lactalbumin and equine lysozyme.
Biochemistry    November 13, 2002   Volume 41, Issue 46 13807-13813 doi: 10.1021/bi020360u
Tada M, Kobashigawa Y, Mizuguchi M, Miura K, Kouno T, Kumaki Y, Demura M, Nitta K, Kawano K.Equine lysozyme is a calcium-binding lysozyme and an evolutional intermediate between non-calcium binding c-type lysozyme and alpha-lactalbumin. We constructed a chimeric protein by substituting the fluctuating loop of bovine alpha-lactalbumin with the D-helix of equine lysozyme. The substitution affects the protection factors not only in the fluctuating loop but also in the antiparallel beta-sheet, the A- and B-helices, and the loop between the B-helix and the beta-sheet. Amide protons in these regions of the chimera are more protected from exchange than are those of bovine alpha-lactalbumin....
Induction of hyaluronan synthase 2 by human chorionic gonadotropin in mural granulosa cells of equine preovulatory follicles.
Endocrinology    October 26, 2002   Volume 143, Issue 11 4375-4384 doi: 10.1210/en.2002-220563
Stock AE, Bouchard N, Brown K, Spicer AP, Underhill CB, Dorรฉ M, Sirois J.In contrast to other species, the preovulatory rise in gonadotropins in mares causes a remarkable expansion of the entire granulosa cell layer in vivo, suggesting that hyaluronan (HA) synthesis may be regulated in mural granulosa cells in this species. The objectives of this study were to clone and characterize equine hyaluronan synthase 2 (HAS2) and investigate the regulation of its transcript and of HA synthesis in equine follicles during human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)- induced ovulation. Results showed that the equine HAS2 cDNA contains a 5'-untranslated region of 436 bp, an open readin...

Infection and immunity    October 16, 2002   Volume 70, Issue 11 5924-5930 doi: 10.1128/IAI.70.11.5924-5930.2002
Palaniappan RU, Chang YF, Jusuf SS, Artiushin S, Timoney JF, McDonough SP, Barr SC, Divers TJ, Simpson KW, McDonough PL, Mohammed HO.A clone expressing a novel immunoreactive leptospiral immunoglobulin-like protein A of 130 kDa (LigA) from Leptospira interrogans serovar pomona type kennewicki was isolated by screening a genomic DNA library with serum from a mare that had recently aborted due to leptospiral infection. LigA is encoded by an open reading frame of 3,675 bp, and the deduced amino acid sequence consists of a series of 90-amino-acid tandem repeats. A search of the NCBI database found that homology of the LigA repeat region was limited to an immunoglobulin-like domain of the bacterial intimin binding protein of Esc...
Characterization of the NRAMP1 (SLC11A1) gene in the horse (Equus caballus L.).
European journal of immunogenetics : official journal of the British Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics    October 3, 2002   Volume 29, Issue 5 423-429 doi: 10.1046/j.1365-2370.2002.00348.x
Matiasovic J, Kubรญckovรก S, Musilovรก P, Rubes J, Horรญn P.The complete coding cDNA sequence of the horse NRAMP1 (SLC11A1) gene was determined (GenBank accession number AF354445). The nucleotide sequence of the horse NRAMP1 gene is similar to sequences of this gene in other species. The gene contains 15 exons whose total length of 1,635 bp corresponds to 544 amino acids constituting the resulting putative protein. Hydrophobicity profile analysis of the deduced horse NRAMP1 gene product showed a nearly identical structure with the mouse NRAMP1 protein. The gene was found to be located on the short arm of ECA 6p12-13 by fluorescence in situ hybridizatio...

Theriogenology    September 6, 2002   Volume 58, Issue 5 1007-1015 doi: 10.1016/s0093-691x(02)00940-8
Pirhonen A, Linnala-Kankkunen A, Kenney RM, Mรคenpรครค PH.Protamine P1 amino acid sequences were determined from semen samples of the Przewalski horse, donkey, Somali wild ass, Grevy's zebra, and Grant's zebra (odd-toed perissodactyls), and compared with those of the domestic horse. Although the rate of amino acid variation of protamine P1 is known to be among the most rapidly diverging polypeptides, the equid sequences revealed only little variation. The sequence from the Przewalski horse was identical with that from the domestic horse. The other sequences differed from the corresponding sequences of the domestic and Przewalski horses in two positio...

Gene    July 18, 2002   Volume 292, Issue 1-2 65-72 doi: 10.1016/s0378-1119(02)00673-x
Giese A, Jude R, Kuiper H, Piumi F, Schambony A, Guรฉrin G, Distl O, Tรถpfer-Petersen E, Leeb T.Acidic epididymal glycoprotein 1 (AEG1), also called cysteine-rich secretory protein 1 (CRISP1), is a member of the CRISP protein family which is characterized by 16 conserved cysteine residues at the C-terminus. The CRISP proteins are expressed in the male genital tract and are thought to be involved in sperm-egg fusion. Therefore, their genes are of interest as candidate genes for inherited male fertility dysfunctions and as putative quantitative trait loci for male fertility traits. In this report, the cloning and DNA sequence of 90 kb of horse genomic DNA from equine chromosome 20q22 conta...
Evolution of the six horse IGHG genes and corresponding immunoglobulin gamma heavy chains.
Immunogenetics    July 4, 2002   Volume 54, Issue 5 353-364 doi: 10.1007/s00251-002-0458-4
Wagner B, Greiser-Wilke I, Wege AK, Radbruch A, Leibold W.It is generally assumed that the different mammalian IgG isotypes have developed during evolution by duplications of a common ancestor gamma heavy chain constant region gene (IGHG). In contrast to other species studied so far, which express between one and four IGHG genes, the horse (Equus caballus) genome contains six IGHG genes, and it has been postulated that they all can be expressed. For determination of the evolutionary history of the six horse IGHG genes, genomic DNA and cDNA of the IGHG genes were sequenced. The structure of these genes with reference to exons and introns was determine...
Modulating immune responses with dendritic cells: an attainable goal in veterinary medicine?
Veterinary immunology and immunopathology    June 20, 2002   Volume 87, Issue 3-4 215-221 doi: 10.1016/s0165-2427(02)00079-x
Vecchione A, Catchpole B, D'Mello F, Kanellos T, Hamblin A.Dendritic cells (DCs) are antigen presenting cells that potently modulate immune responses with varying outcomes depending on the DC sub-population involved. To understand how DC sub-types arise, it is necessary to determine which factors influence their differentiation. At least three major sub-populations of DCs have been described in mice: CD4+/CD8- "myeloid" DCs, CD4-/CD8+ "lymphoid" DCs and Langerhans cell-derived DCs. Whilst somewhat comparable populations have been described in man, in most other species very little is known. The identification of cytokines which stimulate proliferation...
Separation and characterization of mares’ milk alpha(s1)-, beta-, kappa-caseins, gamma-casein-like, and proteose peptone component 5-like peptides.
Journal of dairy science    May 23, 2002   Volume 85, Issue 4 697-706 doi: 10.3168/jds.S0022-0302(02)74126-X
Egito AS, Miclo L, Lรณpez C, Adam A, Girardet JM, Gaillard JL.The equine alpha(s1)- and beta-caseins (CN) were purified by chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and by reversed-phase HPLC. The alpha(s1)-, beta-, and kappa-CN were characterized either by monodimensional urea-PAGE or sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS)-PAGE or by bidimensional electrophoresis. Kappa-casein was characterized after electrophoresis by glycoprotein-specific staining. To identify alpha(s1)-CN without ambiguity, internal sequences were determined after trypsin or chymosin digestion of purified alpha(s1)-CN. These sequences, that could be estimated to correspond to 62% of the full protein, pr...
Importance of M-protein C terminus as substrate antigen for serodetection of equine arteritis virus infection.
Clinical and diagnostic laboratory immunology    May 3, 2002   Volume 9, Issue 3 698-703 doi: 10.1128/cdli.9.3.698-703.2002
Jeronimo C, Archambault D.Equine arteritis virus (EAV), an enveloped positive-stranded RNA virus, is the prototype of the arterivirus group. In a previous paper (A. Kheyar, S. Martin, G. St.-Laurent, P. J. Timoney, W. H. McCollum, and D. Archambault, Clin. Diagn. Lab. Immunol. 4:648-652, 1997), we have shown that the unglycosylated membrane (M) protein, which is composed of 162 amino acids (aa), is a major target of equine antibody to EAV. In order to determine the antigenic regions of the M protein, the cDNA encoding the M protein of EAV was inserted into the procaryotic expression vector pGEX-4T-1 to produce recombin...
A cytochrome c mutant with high electron transfer and antioxidant activities but devoid of apoptogenic effect.
The Biochemical journal    March 7, 2002   Volume 362, Issue Pt 3 749-754 doi: 10.1042/0264-6021:3620749
Abdullaev ZKh, Bodrova ME, Chernyak BV, Dolgikh DA, Kluck RM, Pereverzev MO, Arseniev AS, Efremov RG, Kirpichnikov MP, Mokhova EN, Newmeyer DD....A cytochrome c mutant lacking apoptogenic function but competent in electron transfer and antioxidant activities has been constructed. To this end, mutant species of horse and yeast cytochromes c with substitutions in the N-terminal alpha-helix or position 72 were obtained. It was found that yeast cytochrome c was much less effective than the horse protein in activating respiration of rat liver mitoplasts deficient in endogenous cytochrome c as well as in inhibition of H(2)O(2) production by the initial segment of the respiratory chain of intact rat heart mitochondria. The major role in the di...
Molecular characterisation of a major 29 kDa surface antigen of Sarcocystis neurona.
International journal for parasitology    January 29, 2002   Volume 32, Issue 2 217-225 doi: 10.1016/s0020-7519(01)00324-1
Ellison SP, Omara-Opyene AL, Yowell CA, Marsh AE, Dame JB.A gene encoding a major 29 kDa surface antigen from Sarcocystis neurona, the primary causative agent of equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM), was cloned, sequenced, and expressed as a recombinant protein. A cDNA library was prepared in the expression vector lambda ZAP from polyA+mRNA isolated from S. neurona merozoites cultivated in vitro. Random sequencing of 96 clones identified a clone of an abundant transcript having a translated amino acid sequence with 30% identity to the 31-kDa surface antigen of Sarcocystis muris cyst merozoites. Southern blot analysis indicated that the correspond...
Rapid intrachain binding of histidine-26 and histidine-33 to heme in unfolded ferrocytochrome C.
Biochemistry    January 23, 2002   Volume 41, Issue 4 1372-1380 doi: 10.1021/bi011371a
Hagen SJ, Latypov RF, Dolgikh DA, Roder H.Time-resolved spectroscopic studies of unfolded horse iron(II) cytochrome c have suggested that the imidazole side chains of His26 and His33 bind transiently to the heme iron on microsecond time scales, after photodissociation of a carbon monoxide ligand from the heme. Our studies of four variants of cytochrome c (horse wild type, horse H33N, horse H33N/H26Q, and tuna wild type), unfolded in guanidine hydrochloride at pH 6.5, demonstrate that these side chains are responsible for the observed microsecond spectral changes. As His33 and then His26 are eliminated from the horse wild-type sequence...
Structure of equine infectious anemia virus matrix protein.
Journal of virology    January 19, 2002   Volume 76, Issue 4 1876-1883 doi: 10.1128/jvi.76.4.1876-1883.2002
Hatanaka H, Iourin O, Rao Z, Fry E, Kingsman A, Stuart DI.The Gag polyprotein is key to the budding of retroviruses from host cells and is cleaved upon virion maturation, the N-terminal membrane-binding domain forming the matrix protein (MA). The 2.8-A resolution crystal structure of MA of equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV), a lentivirus, reveals that, despite showing no sequence similarity, more than half of the molecule can be superimposed on the MAs of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). However, unlike the structures formed by HIV-1 and SIV MAs, the oligomerization state observed is not trimeric...
Characterisation of tryptase and a granzyme H-like chymase isolated from equine mastocytoma tissue.
Veterinary immunology and immunopathology    December 4, 2001   Volume 83, Issue 3-4 253-267 doi: 10.1016/s0165-2427(01)00382-8
Pemberton AD, McEuen AR, Scudamore CL.Mast cell proteinases are important inflammatory mediators in man and other species, but until now there has been no investigation of the nature of equine mast cell proteinases. These studies describe the purification and characterisation of two proteolytic components from equine mastocytoma tissue, detected using chromogenic substrates for trypsin and chymotrypsin. Following chromatographic purification, the trypsin-like component was found to be equine mast cell tryptase by N-terminal amino acid sequencing, showing a close similarity with human tryptase-beta (85% identity over 20 residues). ...
Elevated extrahepatic expression and secretion of mammary-associated serum amyloid A 3 (M-SAA3) into colostrum.
Veterinary immunology and immunopathology    December 4, 2001   Volume 83, Issue 3-4 203-211 doi: 10.1016/s0165-2427(01)00380-4
McDonald TL, Larson MA, Mack DR, Weber A.Mammary-associated serum amyloid A 3 (M-SAA3) was secreted at highly elevated levels in bovine, equine and ovine colostrum and found at lower levels in milk 4 days postparturition. N-terminal sequencing of the mature M-SAA3 protein from all the three species revealed a conserved four amino acid motif (TFLK) within the first eight residues. This motif has not been reported to be present in any of the hepatically-produced acute phase SAA (A-SAA) isoforms. Cloning of the bovine M-Saa3 cDNA from mammary gland epithelial cells revealed an open reading frame that encoded a precursor protein of 131 a...

Archives of virology    November 28, 2001   Volume 146, Issue 10 1949-1962 doi: 10.1007/s007050170044
Tsunemitsu H, Imagawa H, Togo M, Shouji T, Kawashima K, Horino R, Imai K, Nishimori T, Takagi M, Higuchi T.A total of 65 equine group A rotaviruses (GAR) isolated from diarrheal foals at 48 farms in Hokkaido, Japan, between 1996 (29 isolates) and 1997 (36 isolates) were characterized for their VP7 and VP4 serotypes by PCR, nucleotide sequencing, and virus neutralization (VN) tests. By PCR VP7 typing, all isolates were classified as G3 or G 14, and the predominant serotype in each year was G3 (86%) in 1996 and G14 (53%) in 1997. VN tests with these 20 isolates randomly selected confirmed the specificity of PCR on the bases of complete agreement of the results in these methods (9 G3 and 11 G14), and ...
Genetic variation of the second exon of ELA-DRB genes in Argentine Creole horses.
Animal genetics    October 31, 2001   Volume 32, Issue 5 257-263 doi: 10.1046/j.1365-2052.2001.00779.x
Dรญaz S, Giovambattista G, Dulout FN, Peral-Garcรญa P.Genetic variation in the equine leucocyte antigen-DRB (ELA-DRB) second exon was investigated using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification, restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of PCR products (PCR-RFLP) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sequencing. Eight distinct PCR-RFLP patterns could be identified in the studied Argentine Creole (AC) horses. The number of observed patterns per individual ranged from four to six, thus confirming the presence of multiple DRB copies in AC horses. Three PCR-RFLP alleles and three new sequences were identified. The estimated rates of synonymous a...
Equine rhinitis B virus: a new serotype.
The Journal of general virology    October 17, 2001   Volume 82, Issue Pt 11 2641-2645 doi: 10.1099/0022-1317-82-11-2641
Huang JA, Ficorilli N, Hartley CA, Wilcox RS, Weiss M, Studdert MJ.Equine rhinovirus serotype 3 isolate P313/75 was assigned, with an unclassified genus status, to the family PICORNAVIRIDAE: The sequence from the 5' poly(C) tract to the 3' poly(A) tract of P313/75 was determined. The sequence is 8821 bases in length and contains a potential open reading frame for a polyprotein of 2583 amino acids. Sequence comparison and phylogenic analysis suggest that P313/75 is most closely related to the prototype equine rhinitis B virus (ERBV) strain P1436/71, formerly named equine rhinovirus type 2. A high degree of sequence similarity was found in the P2 and P3 regions...
A structural and immunological study of chorionic gonadotrophin production by equine trophoblast girdle and cup cells.
Placenta    October 13, 2001   Volume 22, Issue 8-9 749-767 doi: 10.1053/plac.2001.0707
Wooding FB, Morgan G, Fowden AL, Allen WR.Equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) production by the fetally derived endometrial cups appears to be necessary for the establishment and maintenance of normal equine pregnancy. Starting at about the 27th day of pregnancy, an equatorial band of trophectodermal cells on the surface of the spherical conceptus forms the chorionic girdle. This girdle consists initially of flat trophectodermal epithelium which corrugates into folds as the cells proliferate. The folds are then pressed against the uterine epithelium by expansion of the conceptus. The cells on the apices of the folds become binucleate ...
Nucleotide sequence and restriction fragment length polymorphisms of the equine Cvarepsilon gene.
Veterinary immunology and immunopathology    October 6, 2001   Volume 82, Issue 3-4 193-202 doi: 10.1016/s0165-2427(01)00355-5
Wagner B, Siebenkotten G, Radbruch A, Leibold W.IgE is the dominant immunoglobulin isotype involved in type I hypersensitivities in mammals. The heavy chain constant region domains of equine IgE are encoded by a single gene, the Cvarepsilon gene. By restriction analysis of cDNA from 15 unrelated horses, we have now identified two Cvarepsilon alleles, characterised by a Sma I restriction fragment length polymorphism, which we designated Cvarepsilon(a) and Cvarepsilon(b). Sequence analysis of both, Cvarepsilon(a) and Cvarepsilon(b) cDNA, showed in addition two single base exchanges resulting in two amino acid substitutions. Both sequences hav...
Mapping the sequences that mediate interaction of the equine herpesvirus 1 immediate-early protein and human TFIIB.
Journal of virology    October 3, 2001   Volume 75, Issue 21 10219-10230 doi: 10.1128/JVI.75.21.10219-10230.2001
Jang HK, Albrecht RA, Buczynski KA, Kim SK, Derbigny WA, O'Callaghan DJ.The sole immediate-early (IE) gene of equine herpesvirus 1 encodes a 1,487-amino-acid (aa) regulatory phosphoprotein that independently activates expression of early viral genes. Coimmunoprecipitation assays demonstrated that the IE protein physically interacts with the general transcription factor TFIIB. Using a variety of protein-binding assays that employed a panel of IE truncation and deletion mutants expressed as in vitro-synthesized or glutathione S-transferase fusion proteins, we mapped a TFIIB-binding domain to aa 407 to 757 of the IE protein. IE mutants carrying internal deletions of ...
Sequence conservation and antigenic variation of the structural proteins of equine rhinitis A virus.
Journal of virology    October 3, 2001   Volume 75, Issue 21 10550-10556 doi: 10.1128/JVI.75.21.10550-10556.2001
Varrasso A, Drummer HE, Huang JA, Stevenson RA, Ficorilli N, Studdert MJ, Hartley CA.The nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of the P1 region of the genomes of 10 independent equine rhinitis A virus (ERAV) isolates were determined and found to be very closely related. A panel of seven monoclonal antibodies to the prototype virus ERAV.393/76 that bound to nonneutralization epitopes conserved among all 10 isolates was raised. In serum neutralization assays, rabbit polyclonal sera and sera from naturally and experimentally infected horses reacted in a consistent and discriminating manner with the 10 isolates, which indicated the existence of variation in the neutralizatio...
Characterization of equine E-selectin.
Immunology    September 1, 2001   Volume 103, Issue 4 498-504 doi: 10.1046/j.1365-2567.2001.01262.x
Hedges JF, Demaula CD, Moore BD, McLaughlin BE, Simon SI, MacLachlan NJ.Expression of E-selectin on activated endothelium is a critical initial step that leads to extravasation of leucocytes during inflammation, yet E-selectin is largely uncharacterized in several animal species including the horse. We have sequenced and compared E-selectin genes derived from activated cultures of purified equine (horse), cervid (black-tailed deer) and ovine (sheep) pulmonary artery endothelial cells (ECs). Phylogenetic and amino acid sequence comparisons indicate that bovine, cervid and ovine E-selectin are similar, whereas human and equine E-selectin are more closely related to ...
Cytochrome c reconstituted from two peptide fragments displays native-like redox properties.
European journal of biochemistry    August 15, 2001   Volume 268, Issue 16 4537-4543 doi: 10.1046/j.1432-1327.2001.02373.x
Sinibaldi F, Fiorucci L, Mei G, Ferri T, Desideri A, Ascoli F, Santucci R.Recombination of two fragments of horse cytochrome c (the heme-containing N-fragment, residues 1-56, and the C-fragment, residues 57-104), which are substantially unstructured at neutral pH, gives rise to a 1:1 fragment complex with a compact conformation, in which the alpha helical structure and the native Met80-Fe(III) axial bond are recovered. With respect to the native protein, the ferric complex shows a less rigid atomic packing and a decreased stability [Delta(DeltaG(o))D = 14.7 kJ.mol(-1)], ascribed to perturbations involving the Trp59 microenvironment and, to a lower extent, the heme p...
Characterization of mutations in the rpoB gene associated with rifampin resistance in Rhodococcus equi isolated from foals.
Journal of clinical microbiology    July 28, 2001   Volume 39, Issue 8 2784-2787 doi: 10.1128/JCM.39.8.2784-2787.2001
Fines M, Pronost S, Maillard K, Taouji S, Leclercq R.Treatment with a combination of erythromycin and rifampin has considerably improved survival rates of foals and immunocompromised patients suffering from severe pneumonia caused by Rhodococcus equi. Frequently, because of monotherapy, emergence of rifampin-resistant strains has been responsible for treatment failure. Using consensus oligonucleotides, we have amplified and sequenced the rifampin resistance (Rif(r))-determining regions of 12 rifampin-resistant R. equi strains isolated from three foals and of mutants selected in vitro from R. equi ATCC 3701, a rifampin-susceptible strain. The ded...

European journal of biochemistry    June 8, 2001   Volume 268, Issue 11 3313-3320 doi: 10.1046/j.1432-1327.2001.02235.x
Pellegrini M, Corda M, Manca L, Olianas A, Sanna MT, Fais A, De Rosa MC, Bertonati C, Masala B, Giardina B.A study was made of the haemoglobin (Hb) system from the Sardinian dwarf horse (Equus caballus jara), one of the last surviving wild horse species in Europe. The oxygen binding properties of the whole haemolysate and of the four different horse Hbs, separated by ion-exchange chromatography, were studied with special regard to the effect of chloride, 2,3-diphosphoglycerate and lactate. Results indicate that no significant functional differences exist between the four Hb components of horse haemolysate. Moreover, the molecular basis of the intrinsically low oxygen affinity and of the weak intera...
Characterization of expressed sequence tags generated from skin cDNA clones of Equus caballus by single pass sequencing.
Animal biotechnology    May 24, 2001   Volume 12, Issue 1 87-97 doi: 10.1081/ABIO-100102981
Lieto LD, Cothran EG.A cDNA library was built using RNA extracted from the skin tissue of an adult horse. The library was primed with oligo (dT) and sequences were directionally inserted in order to produce an expression library. The library has 5.8X 10(5) plaque forming units with 99.6% recombinant phage. The average insert size is 1.3 Kbp. Three hundred and thirteen expressed sequence tags (ESTs) were generated from sequencing of the 5 prime end of randomly selected skin cDNA clones. The ESTs were sequenced on an ABI 377 using Big-Dye chemistry. A similarity search was performed on each EST using the NCBI non-re...
