Diagnosis of mixed infections with myxovirus influenzae A equi 2 and herpes virus equi 1 among Danish stud horses. Examination of nasopharyngeal secretion and organ material from clinical cases of respiratory diseases in horses, using inoculation of embryonated hen eggs and rabbit and horse kidney cell cultures, resulted in the isolation of influenza virus and herpes virus. In 2 cases, both viruses were present in the same specimen. On the basis of the physio-chemical, cytological and serological criteria, the viruses were found to be identical with influenza virus type A equi 2 and herpes virus equi type 1. Transposition of the aorta and atresia of the pulmonary trunk in a horse. ABSTRACT Transposition of the aorta to the right ventricle with atresia of the pulmonary trunk was described in a 2 year old horse. Clinical and physiological examinations were performed and data recorded. Teratogenesis of the present anomaly was discussed and the literature reviewed. The probable course of circulation during the fetal life and after birth of this animal was suggested. An extensive col-lateral circulation was developed to the lungs, which might explain how the animal could live so long.
Histamine levels in the blood of pregnant mares. The problem of histamine metabolism has long been the subject of research. The excretion of histamine during pregnancy has been studied in cats, mice, hamsters, and many other animals, and also in human beings. However, few papers have been published on the levels of histamine in the blood of pregnant animals. In this paper the variation in blood histamine levels in pregnant mares from the first month of pregnancy until term is reported.
