Ten species were recovered, seven of which engorged. Gerring EL, Webbon PM.Restriction of free movement of the flexor tendons through the fetlock canal results in lameness. The commonest cause was chronic synovitis of the digital sheath. The condition is characterised by an unremitting lameness, synovial distension and a notch on the caudal aspect of the limb. The condition can be relieved by section of the annular ligament of the fetlock. In a series of 24 cases 16 horses returned to work with no recurrence of lameness, three cases were lost to follow up and five animals remained lame; three of these had intercurrent disease.

The main presenting signs of chronic weight loss and diarrhoea as well as the initial laboratory examination did not directly indicate renal involvement. Follow-up investigations were strongly suggestive of avain tuberculosis. Further laboratory investigation revealed neoplasia, which was confirmed at autopsy.

Follicular diameters were estimated in vivo and after removing and slicing six ovaries. Correlation coefficients between the two kinds of determinations were 0.91 for number of follicles >/=2 mm in diameter and 0.95 for diameter of largest follicle. The cause was a destructive, progressive haematoma in the left maxillary sinus.
