Pathological changes of the mare endometrium and genotypes for transferrin and ELA. Histological features of the endometrium, as assessed in biopsy samples, were related to Standardbred mare genotypes for transferrin, esterase (as a control) and equine leucocyte antigens (ELA). Effects of intra-articular administration of methylprednisolone acetate on normal equine articular cartilage. The effects of the corticosteroid 6-alpha-methylprednisolone acetate on normal equine articular cartilage were evaluated, using the middle carpal joint in 4 clinically normal young horses. Three experiments were conducted to assess the structural and functional changes of stallion spermatozoa in response to the calcium ionophore A23187, and to determine individual variation between stallions. Use of concanavalin A for coating the membranes of stallion spermatozoa. Semen from three ejaculates from each of 4 stallions was frozen in liquid nitrogen. Morphology was evaluated by coating the spermatozoa with fluorescein-labelled Concanavalin A (FITC-ConA2) and motility was measured by computer-assisted image analysis. Resistance to benzimidazole anthelmintics in small strongyles (Cyathostominae) of horses in Denmark. This study was undertaken to establish whether anthelmintic resistance was present in nematode parasites of horses in Denmark. Sixteen horse farms were selected for faecal egg count reduction (FECR) tests to measure the efficacy of the anthelmintic used. Resistance to benzimidazole anthelmintics was found on 13 of the 16 farms, with FECR values ranging from 80.0% to -101.3%. On the remaining 3 farms FECR was 100.0%, 99.3% and 97.2%. Antigen recognition in feral mares previously immunized with porcine zonae pellucidae. Twenty-six free-roaming feral mares were immunized against porcine zonae pellucidae (PZP) between February and May, 1988. Eight sexually mature mares received 2 inoculations 2 weeks apart, and 18 mares received 3 inoculations at intervals of 2 and 4 weeks. Circumferential wiring was used to repair 12 mid-body fractures and four large basilar fractures of proximal sesamoid bones in 15 horses. Squamous cell carcinoma of the equine external genitalia: a review and assessment of penile amputation and urethrostomy as a surgical treatment. A retrospective analysis was performed on 48 cases of suspected neoplasia involving the equine external genitalia. Forty nine squamous cell carcinomata (SCC) and 23 squamous papillomata (SP) were identified.
