Imaging diagnosis–nasofrontal suture exostosis in a horse. A 14-year-old Quarter Horse had chronic facial swelling and a more recent history of progressive bilateral epiphora. Radiographic findings were compatible with exostosis of the nasofrontal suture. Computed tomography (CT) of the head, including CT dacryorhinocystography, confirmed the diagnosis and allowed presurgical planning of resection of the exostosis, which resulted in resolution of the clinical signs.

Morphological observation of a horseshoe (fused) kidney and its vascular pattern in a horse. The present study describes the anatomical and microscopic features of a horseshoe kidney that was found in a 7-year-old male horse. The specimen consisted of two kidneys joined at their caudal poles by an isthmus composed of renal parenchyma and situated caudal to the caudal mesenteric artery. Six main renal arteries arose from the aorta and the external iliac arteries and ramified into 21 branches before entering the kidney. Third eyelid dermoid in a horse. An 8-year-old Gypsy Vanner gelding presented to the University of Florida Ophthalmology service for the evaluation of chronic, recurrent corneal ulcers behind the third eyelid of the right eye. On ophthalmic examination, a cluster of aberrant hairs was identified growing along the margin of the third eyelid. This portion of third eyelid was surgically excised, and histopathology identified the haired tissue as a dermoid. Chronic keratitis secondary to a third eyelid dermoid was diagnosed, and excision appeared curative at 6 months post-operative follow-up.

Antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii were determined in serum samples from 616 equids (454 horses, 80 mules and 82 donkeys) in a cross-sectional study of 420 herds in Andalusia (Southern Spain), the region with the highest number of equids in Spain. Prevalence of antibodies to Theileria equi and Babesia caballi in horses from northeastern Mexico. The objective of this study was to obtain an estimate for seroprevalences of Theileria equi (Babesia equi) and Babesia caballi in horses from northeastern Mexico. Sera were collected in spring of 2007 in 248 clinically healthy horses used for different purposes. Antibodies were detected by the indirect immunofluorecent technique. The overall seroprevalence was 61.7% and those for T. equi and B. caballi were 45.2% and 27.4%, respectively.
