Saccharomyces cerevisiae Yeast Culture
Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast culture is a fermented product derived from the controlled growth of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae on a nutrient-rich substrate. It contains a mixture of yeast cells and their metabolic byproducts, which include enzymes, organic acids, and fermentation metabolites. Yeast culture is commonly used in equine feed to support microbial activity in the digestive tract.
In equine nutrition, Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast culture is often included in feed formulations to promote fiber digestion by enhancing the activity of beneficial hindgut microorganisms. It can help maintain a stable gut environment, which is essential for nutrient utilization and overall digestive efficiency. The fermentation metabolites produced by yeast culture may also contribute to microbial balance in the hindgut.
Yeast cultures are distinct from live yeast products in that they do not contain viable yeast cells but instead provide fermentation byproducts that influence digestion.
