Ocular Halicephalobus (syn. Micronema) deletrix in a horse. Ocular contents from a horse with a 4-week history of severe unilateral uveitis were submitted for histopathologic examination. A severe unilateral granulomatous chorioretinitis with intralesional Halicephalobus deletrix was diagnosed. Oxygen cost of ventilation in the resting horse. The purpose of this study was to develop a technique to measure the oxygen cost of ventilation and the values of ventilatory parameters in seven normal horses rebreathing carbon dioxide (CO2). Single and multiple dose pharmacokinetics of gentamicin administered intravenously and intramuscularly in adult conditioned thoroughbred mares. The pharmacokinetics of gentamicin following single and multiple intravenous and intramuscular doses were compared in a two phase, randomised cross-over study in horses. Hyperlipidemia, hyperlipemia, and hepatic lipidosis in American miniature horses: 23 cases (1990-1994). The medical records of 23 American Miniature Horses with hyperlipidemia, hyperlipemia, or hepatic lipidosis were reviewed. The most common clinical signs were anorexia and lethargy. In vitro maturation of equine oocytes obtained from different age groups of sexually mature mares. Oocytes were harvested from mare ovaries obtained at slaughter and were divided into 3 groups based on the age of the donor. Tendonitis of the deep digital flexor tendon in the distal metacarpal/metatarsal region associated with tenosynovitis of the digital sheath in the horse. Twenty-four horses with ultrasonographic evidence of tendonitis of the deep digital flexor tendon in the metacarpal/metatarsal region were seen over a 7 year period. Use of intraoperative ultrasonography in six horses. Intraoperative ultrasonography was used in six horses to aid localization and removal of bone fragments (3 horses) and foreign bodies (3 horses). The ultrasound transducer was enclosed in a sterile sleeve containing sterile aqueous gel and the examination was performed after aseptic preparation of the surgical site. Using ultrasound guidance a needle was placed in contact with the bone fragment or foreign body and an incision was made along the path of the needle to expose and remove the object. This technique resulted in decreased operative time and minimal tissue dissection.

Incubation of equine very low density lipoproteins with lipoprotein lipase isolated from horse postheparin plasma resulted in the formation of lipoproteins of a higher density. Evaluation of ventricular septal defects in horses using two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiography.
