Prothipendyl: detection and elimination in the horse–a case report. The azaphenothiazine neuroleptic prothipendyl (Dominal) is suspected to be administered illegally at low doses to race-horses to improve their performance. Since for this species pharmacokinetic data of the drug are missing we studied its elimination from blood and urine in a standard-bred mare. The legal aspects of pre-purchase examinations. This article should be of interest to every veterinarian who performs pre-purchase examinations. Important definitions are included that describe the legal relationship between the buyer, seller, and veterinarian. Monensin poisoning in horses – an international incident. Several hundred Michigan horses were accidentally exposed to varying levels of monensin. Severity of effects was proportional to the level of feed contamination; sudden death resulted on at least two premises. Acute signs of cardiovascular impairment occurred on one premises having received feed containing over 200 grams of monensin per tonne.
