Topic:Cloning

Cloning in horses involves the process of creating a genetically identical copy of an original horse through somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). This technique involves transferring the nucleus of a somatic cell from the donor horse into an enucleated oocyte, which is then stimulated to develop into an embryo and implanted into a surrogate mare. Cloning has been utilized for various purposes, including the preservation of valuable genetics, reproduction of geldings, and research into genetic diseases. The practice raises discussions on genetic diversity, animal welfare, and ethical considerations. This page compiles peer-reviewed research studies and scholarly articles that explore the methodologies, applications, and implications of cloning in equine science.
Mucin genes in horse airways: MUC5AC, but not MUC2, may play a role in recurrent airway obstruction.
Equine veterinary journal    May 21, 2003   Volume 35, Issue 3 252-257 doi: 10.2746/042516403776148291
Gerber V, Robinson NE, Venta RJ, Rawson J, Jefcoat AM, Hotchkiss JA.Increased mucin gene expression may be an important cause of mucus accumulation observed in recurrent airway obstruction (RAO)-affected horses. To date, however, no mucin gene sequences are available for the horse. Objective: To identify equine homologues of gel-forming mucins and investigate their expression at different airway generations of healthy and RAO-affected horses. Methods: Two equine homologues were identified by cloning and sequencing fragments of equine (eq)MUC5AC and eqMUC2. Results: Semiquantitative RT-PCR on RNA from airways (generations 1, 5, 10, 15; small airways and parench...
Cloning and nucleotide sequence of the equine and elk pituitary pre-prolactin cDNA.
Domestic animal endocrinology    May 14, 2003   Volume 24, Issue 4 367-376 doi: 10.1016/s0739-7240(03)00013-4
Clark RJ, Valderrama XP, Furlan MA, Chedrese PJ.We report the equine (Equs equs) and elk (Cervus elaphus) pituitary pre-prolactin (PRL) cDNA cloning, and their nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences. Pre-PRL cDNA was obtained by RNA ligation mediated-rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RLM-RACE) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The elk pre-PRL cDNA exhibits two polymorphisms at positions 96 and 672, which are silent since they encode for the same amino acids, proline and isoleucine, respectively. We found no polymorphisms in the equine pre-PRL cDNA. The deduced amino acid sequence of the equine pre-PRL is 99% identical to the previou...
Cloning and sequencing of the equine and ovine high-affinity IgE receptor beta-and gamma-chain cDNA.
Immunogenetics    April 23, 2003   Volume 55, Issue 2 122-125 doi: 10.1007/s00251-003-0564-y
McAleese SM, Miller HR.The high-affinity receptor for IgE is expressed on the surface of mast cells and basophils. It is a transmembrane protein with one alpha, one beta and two gamma subunits. The cDNA sequences for the alpha subunit have already been determined. We report here the cDNA sequences for the beta and gamma subunits. The cytoplasmic domains of these subunits are important for intracellular signalling and the deduced amino acid sequences show the expected immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motifs. The gamma subunit is highly conserved between species but more variation is seen with the beta subunit...

The Journal of general virology    April 15, 2003   Volume 84, Issue Pt 5 1317-1326 doi: 10.1099/vir.0.18919-0
Potgieter AC, Cloete M, Pretorius PJ, van Dijk AA.The outer capsid protein VP2 of African horsesickness virus (AHSV) is a major protective antigen. We have cloned full-length VP2 genes from the reference strains of each of the nine AHSV serotypes. Baculovirus recombinants expressing the cloned VP2 genes of serotypes 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8 were constructed, confirming that they all have full open reading frames. This work completes the cloning and expression of the first full set of AHSV VP2 genes. The clones of VP2 genes of serotypes 1, 2, 5, 7 and 8 were sequenced and their amino acid sequences were deduced. Our sequencing data, together with t...
Effect of the number of passages of fetal and adult fibroblasts on nuclear remodelling and first embryonic division in reconstructed horse oocytes after nuclear transfer.
Reproduction (Cambridge, England)    April 10, 2003   Volume 125, Issue 4 535-542
Li X, Tremoleda JL, Allen WR.The effects of repeated passage in vitro of fetal fibroblast cells (FFC) and adult fibroblast cells (AFC) on nuclear remodelling and first embryonic division when used to reconstruct horse oocytes, and the reasons for the developmental block in progression to the two-cell stage were investigated. A total of 463 metaphase II oocytes produced 427 fibroblast-cytoplasm couplets after nuclear transfer, which finally resulted in 319 reconstructed oocytes. With increasing numbers of passages, the rates of nuclear remodelling decreased in both types of donor cell; about half of the fused donor cell nu...

Zygote (Cambridge, England)    March 11, 2003   Volume 11, Issue 1 77-86 doi: 10.1017/s0967199403001102
Choi YH, Chung YG, Walker SC, Westhusin ME, Hinrichs K.This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) and other media factors during oocyte maturation, and the presence of different compositions of amino acids in embryo culture medium, on the development of equine embryos. Oocytes recovered from slaughterhouse-derived ovaries were matured in vitro for 24 h and those with a polar body were subjected to intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) or nuclear transfer with adult fibroblasts (NT). For ICSI embryos, there were no significant differences in rates of morphological cleavage, cleavage with normal nuclei...
High-level expression and purification of a truncated merozoite antigen-2 of Babesia equi in Escherichia coli and its potential for immunodiagnosis.
Journal of clinical microbiology    March 8, 2003   Volume 41, Issue 3 1147-1151 doi: 10.1128/JCM.41.3.1147-1151.2003
Huang X, Xuan X, Yokoyama N, Xu L, Suzuki H, Sugimoto C, Nagasawa H, Fujisaki K, Igarashi I.The gene encoding a truncated merozoite antigen-2 (EMA-2t) of Babesia equi was cloned and highly expressed in Escherichia coli as a glutathione S-transferase fusion protein (G-rEMA-2t). Both G-rEMA-2t and rEMA-2t (after the removal of glutathione S-transferase) had good antigenicity. Either Western blot analysis with rEMA-2t or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with G-rEMA-2t clearly discriminated the sera of horses experimentally infected with B. equi from sera of horses infected with Babesia caballi and healthy horses, although rEMA-2t was not suitable for ELISA, probably owing to it...
A mutation in the MATP gene causes the cream coat colour in the horse.
Genetics, selection, evolution : GSE    February 28, 2003   Volume 35, Issue 1 119-133 doi: 10.1186/1297-9686-35-1-119
Mariat D, Taourit S, Guérin G.In horses, basic colours such as bay or chestnut may be partially diluted to buckskin and palomino, or extremely diluted to cream, a nearly white colour with pink skin and blue eyes. This dilution is expected to be controlled by one gene and we used both candidate gene and positional cloning strategies to identify the "cream mutation". A horse panel including reference colours was established and typed for different markers within or in the neighbourhood of two candidate genes. Our data suggest that the causal mutation, a G to A transition, is localised in exon 2 of the MATP gene leading to an...
Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus-vectored vaccines protect mice against anthrax spore challenge.
Infection and immunity    February 22, 2003   Volume 71, Issue 3 1491-1496 doi: 10.1128/IAI.71.3.1491-1496.2003
Lee JS, Hadjipanayis AG, Welkos SL.Anthrax, a disease usually associated with herbivores, is caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. The current vaccine licensed for human use requires a six-dose primary series and yearly boosters and causes reactogenicity in up to 30% of vaccine recipients. A minimally reactogenic vaccine requiring fewer inoculations is warranted. Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE) virus has been configured for use as a vaccine vector for a wide variety of immunogens. The VEE vaccine vector is composed of a self-replicating RNA (replicon) containing all of the VEE virus nonstructural genes and a multiple...

DNA sequence : the journal of DNA sequencing and mapping    February 21, 2003   Volume 13, Issue 5 257-262 doi: 10.1080/1042517021000013553
Sato F, Hasegawa T, Katayama Y, Ishida N.Complementary DNA (cDNA) encoding equine dopamine beta-hydroxylase (DBH) was amplified with a combination of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) method, and their nucleotide sequences (Accession No. AB029430: the DDBJ nucleotide sequence database) was determined. A total of 3842 bp cDNA sequence was consisted with 5 bp of 5' flanking untranslated sequence, 1833 bp of open reading frame encoding 610 amino acids, and 2004 bp of 3' flanking untranslated sequence. The deduced amino acid sequence of equine DBH was very similar to the ...
Molecular cloning and expression of equine calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide-I, and calcitonin gene-related peptide-II.
Molecular and cellular endocrinology    February 13, 2003   Volume 199, Issue 1-2 119-128 doi: 10.1016/s0303-7207(02)00289-7
Toribio RE, Kohn CW, Leone GW, Capen CC, Rosol TJ.In this study, we describe the cloning and tissue expression of equine calcitonin (CT), calcitonin-gene related peptide (CGRP)-I, and CGRP-II cDNA. We also describe a novel divergent form of CGRP (CGRP-I). Equine CT has greatest homology (>85%) to human, rat and mouse subgroups of calcitonins. Equine CGRP-I has low homology (80% homology to chicken, human, rat, ovine, swine, and bovine CGRPs. The homology between equine CGRP-I and CGRP-II is low (56%). The high homology of equine CGRP-II and the low homology of equine CGRP-I to CGRP in other species were unexpected findings. Northern blot a...
Genetic engineering of streptavidin-binding peptide tagged single-chain variable fragment antibody to Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus.
Hybridoma and hybridomics    February 8, 2003   Volume 21, Issue 6 415-420 doi: 10.1089/153685902321043945
Hu WG, Alvi AZ, Fulton RE, Suresh MR, Nagata LP.A recombinant gene encoding a single-chain variable fragment (scFv) antibody against Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEE) was cloned into a prokaryotic T7 RNA polymerase-regulated expression vector. A streptavidin-binding peptide gene fused to a 6His tag was attached downstream to the scFv gene. The recombinant fusion protein was expressed in bacteria as inclusion bodies that were subsequently solubilized with 8 M urea and renatured by an arginine system. Purification of the fusion protein was achieved by immobilized metal affinity chromatography. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA...
Identification of a specific antigenic region of the P82 protein of Babesia equi and its potential use in serodiagnosis.
Journal of clinical microbiology    February 8, 2003   Volume 41, Issue 2 547-551 doi: 10.1128/JCM.41.2.547-551.2003
Hirata H, Xuan X, Yokoyama N, Nishikawa Y, Fujisaki K, Suzuki N, Igarashi I.The efficacy of the Be82 gene product fused with glutathione S-transferase (GST/Be82) in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the diagnosis of Babesia equi infection was reported previously (H. Hirata et al., J. Clin. Microbiol. 40:1470-1474, 2002). However, the ELISA with the GST/Be82 antigen cross-reacted with Babesia caballi-infected horse sera, despite the high rate of detection of B. equi. These results suggested that GST/Be82 has an antigen in common with B. caballi or antigenicity similar to that of B. caballi. In the present study, we constructed a series of five clones wit...
Characterization of a cytolytic strain of equine infectious anemia virus.
Journal of virology    January 29, 2003   Volume 77, Issue 4 2385-2399 doi: 10.1128/jvi.77.4.2385-2399.2003
Maury W, Wright PJ, Bradley S.A novel strain of equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV) called vMA-1c that rapidly and specifically killed infected equine fibroblasts (ED cells) but not other infectible cell lines was established. This strain was generated from an avirulent, noncytopathic strain of EIAV, MA-1. Studies with this new cytolytic strain of virus have permitted us to define viral parameters associated with EIAV-induced cell killing and begin to explore the mechanism. vMA-1c infection resulted in induction of rapid cell death, enhanced fusogenic activity, and increased rates of spread in equine fibroblasts compared...
Surfactant proteins in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of horses: assay technique and changes following road transport.
The Veterinary record    December 31, 2002   Volume 148, Issue 3 74-80 doi: 10.1136/vr.148.3.74
Hobo S, Yoshihara T, Oikawa M, Jones JH.An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed for equine surfactant proteins SP-A and SP-D in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). Anti-equine SP-A or SP-D monoclonal antibodies (mAb) were produced by hybridoma technology, purified by the antibody purification reagent, and analysed by Western blotting analysis. The immunoreaction (two-site sandwich ELISA) with a mAb, peroxidase-labelled mAb and BALF sample was carried out simultaneously and analytical recovery and precision were assayed. Six mAb for SP-A and four mAb for SP-D were successfully cloned in limiting dilution to monocl...
Embryo technologies in the horse.
Theriogenology    December 25, 2002   Volume 59, Issue 1 151-170 doi: 10.1016/s0093-691x(02)01268-2
Squires EL, Carnevale EM, McCue PM, Bruemmer JE.Recent studies demonstrated that zwitterionic buffers could be used for satisfactory storage of equine embryos at 5 degrees C. The success of freezing embryos is dependent upon size and stage of development. Morulae and blastocysts <300 microm can be slowly cooled or vitrified with acceptable pregnancy rates after transfer. The majority of equine embryos are collected from single ovulating mares, as there is no commercially available product for superovulation in equine. However, pituitary extract, rich in FSH, can be used to increase embryo recovery three- to four-fold. Similar to human me...

Journal of animal science    December 5, 2002   Volume 80, Issue 11 2942-2948 doi: 10.2527/2002.80112942x
Buff PR, Dodds AC, Morrison CD, Whitley NC, McFadin EL, Daniel JA, Djiane J, Keisler DH.Obesity has been a major concern in the horse industry for many years, and the recent discovery of leptin and leptin receptors in numerous nonequine species has provided a basis for new approaches to study this problem in equine. The objectives were to: 1) clone a partial sequence ofthe equine leptin and leptin receptor genes so as to enable the design of primers for RT-PCR determination of leptin and leptin receptor gene presence and distribution in tissues, 2) develop a radioimmunoassay to quantify peripheral concentrations of leptin in equine, 3) determine if peripheral concentrations of le...
Molecular characterization of the equine testis-specific protein 1 (TPX1) and acidic epididymal glycoprotein 2 (AEG2) genes encoding members of the cysteine-rich secretory protein (CRISP) family.
Gene    December 3, 2002   Volume 299, Issue 1-2 101-109 doi: 10.1016/s0378-1119(02)01018-1
Giese A, Jude R, Kuiper H, Raudsepp T, Piumi F, Schambony A, Guérin G, Chowdhary BP, Distl O, Töpfer-Petersen E, Leeb T.The cysteine-rich secretory protein (CRISP) family consists of three members called acidic epididymal glycoprotein 1 (AEG1), AEG2, and testis-specific protein 1 (TPX1), which share 16 conserved cysteine residues at their C-termini. The CRISP proteins are primarily expressed in different sections of the male genital tract and are thought to mediate cell-cell interactions of male germ cells with other cells during sperm maturation or during fertilization. Therefore, their genes are of interest as candidate genes for inherited male fertility dysfunctions and as putative quantitative trait loci fo...
Expression of biologically active recombinant equine interferon-gamma by two different baculovirus gene expression systems using insect cells and silkworm larvae.
Cytokine    November 26, 2002   Volume 20, Issue 2 63-69 doi: 10.1006/cyto.2002.1983
Wu D, Murakami K, Liu N, Inoshima Y, Yokoyama T, Kokuho T, Inumaru S, Matsumura T, Kondo T, Nakano K, Sentsui H.The full-length equine interferon-gamma (eIFN-gamma) cDNA, including the secretion signal peptide coding region, was recloned into baculovirus transfer vector pAcYM1. This vector was co-transfected with Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus DNA or hybrid nuclear polyhedrosis virus DNA into Spodoptera frugiperda cells. The recombinant viruses, named AcEIFN-gamma and HyEIFN-gamma, were then recovered. Recombinant eIFN-gamma (reIFN-gamma) was accumulated in the culture fluid of the AcEIFN-gamma or HyEIFN-gamma infected Tricoplusia ni -derived cell line, BTI TN 5B1-4, and hemolymph of ...
Genetic characterization of horse bone excavated from the Kwakji archaeological site, Jeju, Korea.
Molecules and cells    November 22, 2002   Volume 14, Issue 2 224-230
Jung YH, Han SH, Shin T, Oh MY.We determined the nucleotide sequences of the hypervariable D-loop region of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from horse bone (humerus, A.D. 700 to A.D. 800) that was excavated from the Kwakji archaeological site, Jeju, Korea. We compared them with ones from extant horses. We designed three pairs of oligonucleotide primers from the tRNA-Thr and tRNA-Phe gene regions of mtDNA that are highly conserved among many other animal species. We cloned 232, 336, and 644 bp from the horse bone in order to determine the mtDNA D-loop sequence. The sequence was 1,124 bp long; the middle contained 19 tandem repeats...
Induction of hyaluronan synthase 2 by human chorionic gonadotropin in mural granulosa cells of equine preovulatory follicles.
Endocrinology    October 26, 2002   Volume 143, Issue 11 4375-4384 doi: 10.1210/en.2002-220563
Stock AE, Bouchard N, Brown K, Spicer AP, Underhill CB, Doré M, Sirois J.In contrast to other species, the preovulatory rise in gonadotropins in mares causes a remarkable expansion of the entire granulosa cell layer in vivo, suggesting that hyaluronan (HA) synthesis may be regulated in mural granulosa cells in this species. The objectives of this study were to clone and characterize equine hyaluronan synthase 2 (HAS2) and investigate the regulation of its transcript and of HA synthesis in equine follicles during human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)- induced ovulation. Results showed that the equine HAS2 cDNA contains a 5'-untranslated region of 436 bp, an open readin...
Construction of a stable non-mucoid deletion mutant of the Streptococcus equi Pinnacle vaccine strain.
Veterinary microbiology    October 18, 2002   Volume 89, Issue 4 311-321 doi: 10.1016/s0378-1135(02)00205-5
Walker JA, Timoney JF.Streptococcus equi causes equine strangles, a purulent lymphadenopathy of the head and neck. An avirulent, non-encapsulated strain (Pinnacle) has been used widely in North America as an intranasal vaccine. The aim of the study was to create a specific mutation of the hyaluronate synthase (hasA) gene in Pinnacle to permanently abolish the production of capsule and provide an easily recognisable genetic marker. An internal fragment of hasA was generated by PCR and cloned into pTW100 (Microscience, UK). An encapsulated revertant of Pinnacle was then transformed with the recombinant plasmid by ele...
Cloning and molecular characterization of an immunogenic LigA protein of Leptospira interrogans.
Infection and immunity    October 16, 2002   Volume 70, Issue 11 5924-5930 doi: 10.1128/IAI.70.11.5924-5930.2002
Palaniappan RU, Chang YF, Jusuf SS, Artiushin S, Timoney JF, McDonough SP, Barr SC, Divers TJ, Simpson KW, McDonough PL, Mohammed HO.A clone expressing a novel immunoreactive leptospiral immunoglobulin-like protein A of 130 kDa (LigA) from Leptospira interrogans serovar pomona type kennewicki was isolated by screening a genomic DNA library with serum from a mare that had recently aborted due to leptospiral infection. LigA is encoded by an open reading frame of 3,675 bp, and the deduced amino acid sequence consists of a series of 90-amino-acid tandem repeats. A search of the NCBI database found that homology of the LigA repeat region was limited to an immunoglobulin-like domain of the bacterial intimin binding protein of Esc...
Cytogenetic localization of 136 genes in the horse: comparative mapping with the human genome.
Mammalian genome : official journal of the International Mammalian Genome Society    October 9, 2002   Volume 13, Issue 9 524-534 doi: 10.1007/s00335-001-2137-4
Milenkovic D, Oustry-Vaiman A, Lear TL, Billault A, Mariat D, Piumi F, Schibler L, Cribiu E, Guérin G.The aim of this study was to increase the number of type I markers on the horse cytogenetic map and to improve comparison with maps of other species, thus facilitating positional candidate cloning studies. BAC clones from two different sources were FISH mapped: homologous horse BAC clones selected from our newly extended BAC library using consensus primer sequences and heterologous goat BAC clones. We report the localization of 136 genes on the horse cytogenetic map, almost doubling the number of cytogenetically mapped genes with 48 localizations from horse BAC clones and 88 from goat BAC clon...
Characterisation of the biological activity of recombinant equine eotaxin in vitro.
Cytokine    August 30, 2002   Volume 19, Issue 1 27-30 doi: 10.1006/cyto.2002.1052
Benarafa C, Collins ME, Hamblin AS, Sabroe I, Cunningham FM.The chemokine eotaxin (CCL11) is a key player in the trafficking of eosinophils to normal tissues and in the tissue eosinophilia associated with human allergic disease. We have recently cloned equine eotaxin and here we report the production of rEq eotaxin, with and without a C-terminal fusion peptide, in a novel expression system utilising stably transfected insect cells. rEq eotaxin induced equine eosinophil migration and superoxide production in vitro. A shape change in human eosinophils that could be blocked by 7B11, a monoclonal antibody against human CCR3, was also observed. Biological a...
Monocarboxylate transporters and lactate metabolism in equine athletes: a review.
Acta veterinaria Scandinavica    August 14, 2002   Volume 43, Issue 2 63-74 doi: 10.1186/1751-0147-43-63
Pösö AR.Lactate is known as the end product of anaerobic glycolysis, a pathway that is of key importance during high intensity exercise. Instead of being a waste product lactate is now regarded as a valuable substrate that significantly contributes to the energy production of heart, non-contracting muscles and even brain. The recent cloning of monocarboxylate transporters, a conserved protein family that transports lactate through biological membranes, has given a new insight into the role of lactate in whole body metabolism. This paper reviews current literature on lactate and monocarboxylate transpo...
Multiple RNA splicing and the presence of cryptic RNA splice donor and acceptor sites may contribute to low expression levels and poor immunogenicity of potential DNA vaccines containing the env gene of equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV).
Veterinary microbiology    July 24, 2002   Volume 88, Issue 2 127-151 doi: 10.1016/s0378-1135(02)00099-8
Zhou W, Cook RF, Cook SJ, Hammond SA, Rushlow K, Ghabrial NN, Berger SL, Montelaro RC, Issel CJ.The env gene is an excellent candidate for inclusion in any DNA-based vaccine approach against equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV). Unfortunately, this gene is subjected to mutational pressure in E. coli resulting in the introduction of stop codons at the 5' terminus unless it is molecularly cloned using very-low-copy-number plasmid vectors. To overcome this problem, a mammalian expression vector was constructed based on the low-copy-number pLG338-30 plasmid. This permitted the production of full-length EIAV env gene clones (plcnCMVenv) from which low-level expression of the viral surface un...
Production of nuclear transfer horse embryos by Piezo-driven injection of somatic cell nuclei and activation with stallion sperm cytosolic extract.
Biology of reproduction    July 24, 2002   Volume 67, Issue 2 561-567 doi: 10.1095/biolreprod67.2.561
Choi YH, Love CC, Chung YG, Varner DD, Westhusin ME, Burghardt RC, Hinrichs K.We investigated the use of direct nuclear injection using the Piezo drill and activation by injection of stallion sperm cytosolic extract for production of cloned equine embryos. When metaphase II horse oocytes were injected with either of two dosages of sperm extract and cultured 20 h, similar activation rates (88% vs. 90%) and cleavage rates (49% vs. 46%) were obtained. The successful reconstruction rate of horse oocytes with horse somatic cell donor nuclei after direct injection using the Piezo drill was 82%. Four dosages of sperm extract (containing 59, 176, 293, or 1375 microg/ml protein)...

Gene    July 18, 2002   Volume 292, Issue 1-2 65-72 doi: 10.1016/s0378-1119(02)00673-x
Giese A, Jude R, Kuiper H, Piumi F, Schambony A, Guérin G, Distl O, Töpfer-Petersen E, Leeb T.Acidic epididymal glycoprotein 1 (AEG1), also called cysteine-rich secretory protein 1 (CRISP1), is a member of the CRISP protein family which is characterized by 16 conserved cysteine residues at the C-terminus. The CRISP proteins are expressed in the male genital tract and are thought to be involved in sperm-egg fusion. Therefore, their genes are of interest as candidate genes for inherited male fertility dysfunctions and as putative quantitative trait loci for male fertility traits. In this report, the cloning and DNA sequence of 90 kb of horse genomic DNA from equine chromosome 20q22 conta...
