After clinical and radiological examinations and an bursascopy, the diagnosis navicular disease was made. The therapy consisted of stallrest, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and orthopaedic shoeing plus intrabursal injections of short-acting corticosteroids and hyaluronic acid. The extent to which rehabilitation and return to normal function can be attained, cannot always be accurately determined by physical examination. Detection of a radiographically occult fracture of the lateral palmar process of the distal phalanx in a horse using computed tomography.
