Inflammatory Airway Disease of Horses–Revised Consensus Statement.

Abstract: The purpose of this manuscript is to revise and update the previous consensus statement on inflammatory airway disease (IAD) in horses. Since 2007, a large number of scientific articles have been published on the topic and these new findings have led to a significant evolution of our understanding of IAD.

This research refreshes and updates the previous consensus on Inflammatory Airway Disease (IAD) in horses, incorporating recent scientific articles that have deepened our knowledge of IAD.

Objective Overview

This research paper aims to provide updated knowledge and understanding regarding Inflammatory Airway Disease (IAD) in horses, reflecting the advancements made since the previous consensus statement in 2007.

Detailed Explanation

  • Firstly, the goal of this research is to offer a revised version of a prior consensus statement on IAD in horses. A consensus statement is a document produced by a panel of experts, summarizing the current state of knowledge and providing recommendations on a specific subject. Here, the subject is IAD, a common respiratory condition affecting horses.
  • Most importantly, the revision is justified by the large volume of new research articles on IAD published since 2007. These new scientific findings necessitate an updated consensus statement that reflects the recent progress and discoveries in understanding IAD. The authors imply that the last consensus statement is no longer wholly accurate due to the advancements in the field.
  • The comprehensive understanding of IAD has significantly evolved since the last consensus statement. Information about its causes, symptoms, treatment strategies, and prevention methods has likely been expanded and refined. This paper seeks to compile all this new information and provide an updated, holistic understanding of IAD for veterinarians, horse owners, and other stakeholders.
  • To realize this, the authors have synthesized recent scientific literature on IAD, analyzed it critically, and formulated a new consensus statement. This document will be beneficial to various parties involved in equine health, by providing them the latest, most accurate information, recommendations, and treatment protocols for managing IAD.
