Acerola - Feed Ingredient
Acerola, also known as Malpighia emarginata or Barbados cherry, is a tropical fruit native to Central and South America. It is well known for its high Vitamin C content, along with carotenoids, anthocyanins, and other polyphenols.
In equine feed and supplement formulations, acerola is typically included in powdered or extract form as a natural source of Vitamin C and antioxidants. While horses synthesize their own Vitamin C, supplementation may be considered under certain conditions such as stress or illness. There are no known feeding concerns associated with acerola, though its use in horses is generally limited to specialty products and its efficacy has not been extensively studied in equines.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Acerola as an ingredient.
