Anethole - Feed Ingredient

Anethole is a naturally occurring aromatic compound found in the essential oils of plants such as anise (Pimpinella anisum), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), and star anise (Illicium verum). It has a sweet, licorice-like flavor and is the primary contributor to the characteristic aroma and taste of these herbs.

In animal feed, including for horses, anethole may be used as a flavoring agent to enhance palatability. It is typically included in very small quantities as part of essential oil blends or botanical extracts. Anethole has also been studied for its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, though these effects are more commonly explored in monogastric livestock.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Anethole as an ingredient.
