Barley Straw - Feed Ingredient

Barley straw consists of the dry stalks and leaves remaining after the barley grain has been harvested. It is used in equine diets primarily as a low-nutrient roughage source. Compared to hay, barley straw is lower in protein, energy, and digestibility but provides structural fiber that can support gut motility.

Barley straw is sometimes fed to horses to add bulk to the diet without significantly increasing caloric intake.
