Barley - Feed Ingredient

Barley is a cereal grain commonly used in horse feed as a source of energy. It consists of the outer hull, bran, endosperm, and germ, with the majority of its energy coming from starch. Compared to oats, barley has a higher starch content but a harder hull, making it less digestible unless processed.

In equine nutrition, barley is often fed in rolled, cracked, or micronized form to improve digestibility. However, due to its higher starch content and low starch digestibility, excessive feeding of barley can increase the risk of digestive issues such as colic if not properly utilized.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Barley as an ingredient.
