Betaine HCl (betaine hydrochloride) is a compound that combines betaine—a naturally occurring derivative of the amino acid glycine—with hydrochloric acid. It is typically included in animal feeds as a digestive aid and acidifier.
In equine nutrition, betaine HCl is used to support gastric function by contributing to stomach acidity, which may help with feed digestion and maintaining a healthy gastric environment. It may also serve as a methyl group donor, playing a role in metabolic processes involving methylation.
