Calcium Phosphate - Feed Ingredient

Calcium phosphate is a mineral compound that serves as a source of both calcium and phosphorus in equine diets. These two minerals are essential for bone development, muscle function, energy metabolism, and numerous enzymatic processes. Calcium phosphate is commonly used in commercial horse feeds and mineral supplements to help maintain an appropriate calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, which is critical for skeletal health.

There are different forms of calcium phosphate, including dicalcium phosphate (DCP) and monocalcium phosphate (MCP), both of which provide bioavailable sources of these essential minerals. Horses consuming high-calcium forages, such as alfalfa, may require additional phosphorus to maintain balance, whereas grain-based diets may need supplemental calcium. Improper calcium-to-phosphorus ratios can negatively impact bone health, making careful formulation important in equine nutrition.

The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Calcium Phosphate as an ingredient.
