Cellulose-based products in animal feed refer to ingredients derived primarily from cellulose, a complex carbohydrate and the main structural component of plant cell walls. These products may include purified cellulose, powdered cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, or fiber-rich byproducts such as soybean hulls, oat hulls, or beet pulp. The degree of refinement and processing determines their specific properties and applications.

In equine nutrition, cellulose-based products are used primarily as sources of dietary fiber. They contribute to gut motility, support hindgut microbial fermentation, and help maintain gastrointestinal health. These ingredients are especially valuable in diets designed for weight management, metabolic control, or to increase forage content without adding excess calories. Purified forms of cellulose may also be used in feed manufacturing to modify texture, control moisture, or act as a filler or binder in pellets and supplements.
