Corn Meal - Feed Ingredient

Corn meal is a ground product made from dried maize (Zea mays) kernels. Corn meal is typically produced through dry milling, which separates the corn kernel into its main components—bran, germ, and endosperm—before grinding. Variations in processing can yield different byproducts such as corn flour, corn grits, or corn bran.

In equine diets, corn meal provides readily digestible carbohydrates that can contribute to meeting the energy requirements of horses. The griding of the corn into the meal increases the starch digestibility of the grain. While palatable and energy-dense, corn meal should be fed with caution to horses prone to metabolic disorders or laminitis due to its high non-structural carbohydrate (NSC) content.
