Corn Steep Liquor - Feed Ingredient
Corn steep liquor is a liquid byproduct of the corn wet-milling process. It is obtained by soaking corn kernels in water and sulfur dioxide, which softens the grain and releases soluble nutrients. The resulting steep water is concentrated to produce corn steep liquor.
In equine feeds, corn steep liquor may be used as a natural source of nitrogen, amino acids, vitamins (especially B-vitamins), and minerals. It also contributes to palatability and may serve as a binding or conditioning agent in pelleted feeds.
Due to its high moisture content, corn steep liquor is often dried or blended with other ingredients before inclusion in feed. Its protein is mostly non-protein nitrogen, which is less useful for horses than for ruminants.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Corn Steep Liquor as an ingredient.
